Grasp the auspicious knot of the letter 'ka'. Then grasp the Nirmanakaya. Then, you can place a pebble or a wooden stick in front of you, or you can choose not to. Visualize the Bhagavan Vajrasattva, with a white body, holding a vajra and a bell, about four fingers high, adorned with silk and jewels, seated in the posture of a bodhisattva. Grasp onto him and try to make the mind revolve around him as much as possible. The Bhagavan has taught nine ways of abiding the mind in the sutras. To make it easier to understand, I will explain: 'Placing' means focusing the mind one-pointedly on an image or a wooden stick and abiding there. 'Continuous placing' means continuously abiding in that state, making it last for a long time. 'Close placing' means if discursive thoughts arise, immediately seize them with mindfulness and place them in equanimity. 'Near placing' means merging the mind that is placed in equanimity with the previous place of abiding, placing it in equanimity. 'Taming' means clearly remembering the qualities of the mind that is abiding, generating joy and remaining in that state. 'Pacifying' means identifying the cause of distraction, whatever it may be, and abandoning attachment to it, abiding in that state. 'Near pacifying' means recognizing the nature of all causes of distraction, such as greed, and all results of distraction, such as unpleasant feelings, and allowing them to self-liberate. 'Making one-pointed' means that through the power of such meditation, the mind naturally enters the object of focus, abiding without the need for intense effort. 'Equanimity' means that ultimately there is no distraction of equanimity and non-equanimity. These are the nine ways of abiding the mind. This is relying on the Nirmanakaya and Sambhogakaya to hold the mind externally. Then, holding the mind internally: In the center of your heart, visualize the Dharmakaya Vajradhara, with a blue body, full in size, holding a vajra and bell crossed at the heart, seated in the vajra posture on a lotus and moon seat, adorned with silk and jewels, and abide there without distraction as much as possible. 'Shifting' means that after the various thoughts and discursive thoughts of the mind have subsided, the mind abides steadily in the object of focus, and this is shamatha.

Moreover, the mind does not waver, does not discriminate at all, will not be completely disappointed, and will not feel uncomfortable. The thought that "the mind is this" will not arise, and this is the samadhi called "abiding in the mind." Also, in the Mother Sutra, it says: When a Bodhisattva practices the Prajnaparamita, there is a samadhi called "Seclusion." A Bodhisattva who practices this samadhi will quickly and completely attain enlightenment. Similarly, there are also the samadhis of "no mind," "no mental activity," "immovable," and "all dharmas are unobtainable in their own nature." A Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices these samadhis will quickly and completely attain enlightenment. This is the perfect cause of dhyana and shamatha. Also, in the Mother Sutra, it says: Because of solitude, it is profound; because it is difficult to measure, it is profound. Subhuti, wherever there is no form, that is the profundity of form. Subhuti, wherever there is no feeling, no perception, no volition, and no consciousness, that is the profundity of consciousness. Also, Subhuti, this Prajnaparamita is non-discriminating. Non-discrimination is called Buddha, and non-discrimination is called Bodhi. Also, in the Eight Thousand Verses, it says: By practicing the Prajnaparamita, one does not abide in form, one does not abide in feeling, one does not abide in perception, one does not abide in volition, and one does not abide in consciousness. Also, in the "Brief Explanation of One's Own View," it says: Mudras, mandalas, mantras, etc., and the nature of practice and recitation, even after countless kalpas, one will never attain accomplishment. Abandoning all discriminations, whoever abides in that very state will achieve it in this life and touch the supreme Bodhi. Also, in the Sambhuta Tantra, it says: After examining the place of discrimination, if a wise person does not discriminate, as Vajrasattva said, that person will undoubtedly attain accomplishment. Discrimination will lead to falling into hell and wandering in the six realms of samsara. Liberation from discrimination will lead to the stainless and peaceful dharmadhatu. Therefore, cut the net of discrimination. Also, in the Vairochana Abhisambodhi Sutra, it says: Because discrimination is the source of suffering.
