Some call it vastness, some call it ordinary consciousness, some call it the single bindu, some call it the Dharmadhatu, some call it the Alaya. If this can be directly pointed out and recognized, when past thoughts disappear without a trace, when future thoughts have not yet arisen, when the present is naturally abiding without fabrication, in the consciousness of the ordinary self-nature, when one looks at oneself nakedly, there is nothing to see when looking, bright, awareness is directly naked, empty and clear, without any clinging, clarity and emptiness are non-dual, originally like this, not permanent, nothing is accomplished, not annihilation, bright, awareness is sparkling, not one, knowing and clear in many ways, not many, inseparable, one taste, there is nothing else, this is self-awareness. The essential instruction of the original ground, in this, the three bodies are inseparable, everything is complete. Nothing is accomplished, emptiness is the Dharmakaya, the self-nature of emptiness is clear, the Sambhogakaya, without obstruction, everything arises, the Nirmanakaya. The three are complete as one is the essence. If this can be forcibly pointed out and recognized, the present consciousness is this, the unfabricated self-clear consciousness is this. If the nature of mind is not realized, what is the meaning of doing? There is nothing to meditate on here, there is nothing to meditate on, what is the meaning of doing? Awareness is directly this, if one's own mind is not found, what is the meaning of doing? The continuous clarity and awareness is this, if the nature of mind is not seen, what is the meaning of doing? The thinker of the mind is oneself, searching but not finding, what is the meaning of doing? There is nothing to do here, doing but not accomplishing, what is the meaning of doing? Abiding in the unfabricated self-nature is enough, but unable to abide, what is the meaning of doing? Abiding calmly without doing is enough, but unable to do it, what is the meaning of doing? Clarity, awareness, and emptiness are non-dual and one, accomplishment and non-accomplishment, what is the meaning of doing? Without cause and condition, self-arisen spontaneously accomplished, striving but unable to do it, what is the meaning of doing? Thoughts arising and liberation are simultaneous, without an antidote, what is the meaning of doing? The present consciousness is this, being ignorant of this, what is the meaning of doing? The nature of mind is emptiness, it is certain that there is no basis. Thus it is said. Padmasambhava said to Lang Pal Seng: You yourself are the one who looks at your mind.

Do not be separated from that innate nature of clear light and emptiness united! This is the instruction to fill one's mouth with many teachings, so it is said. Spoken to Glorious Wisdom: If phenomenal existence is decided as mind, then the palace, if reversed, does not exist. If one decides within oneself, then the assembly of deities gathers into one. If one recognizes the self-face of the one, then that is the Buddha himself, so it is said. From the mouth of the wise Shri Singha: The way the eighty-four thousand doors of Dharma are gathered into three words of the Lama's instruction is: First, cutting off the root of the base of all, is one; second, examining the root of existence, the self, is two; third, the instruction of wisdom's union, is three. First, regarding the teaching that all Dharmas are gathered into one's own mind: From where does this mind first arise? Where does it abide in the middle? Where does it go in the end? These are three. Having examined, it does not arise from anywhere in the beginning; it does not abide anywhere in the middle; it does not go anywhere in the end. Therefore, since it is not formed into color and shape, and since nothing is formed other than clear light and emptiness, free from elaboration, this is cutting off the root of the base of all. Purifying the root of existence is this: That ghost called "I" or "self," looking outward at the outer realm of appearance, mind, vessel and essence, and one's own body; looking inward at the realm of establishing one's own ground and path, it cannot be determined where it abides or what "this" is, that is the non-establishment of "self." The instruction of wisdom and union is this: In that state of not finding "self," relax the mind; without effort, openly, loosely, naturally, brightly, meditate and become accustomed to it. So it is said. In the Great Secret Tantra of the Blazing Sun of Clear Space: After that, examine the place of arising of the mind, the place of abiding, the place of going, the one who goes, the shape, color, things, faults, and what qualities there are. Again and again, focus on the object and meditate. If you do not find the place of arising of the mind, then also decide that the nature of the mind is empty. That emptiness free from the object of grasping, identify it as the Dharmakaya, and constantly abide in it. After that, the mind's place of abiding is: If it is said to exist, then the essence is empty; if it is said not to exist, then the examiner is clear. That which is free from identifying emptiness and clarity, identify it as the Sambhogakaya, emptiness and clarity unceasing, and constantly abide in that state. After that, the mind's place of going is: If it is said not to exist, then it is thought to exist; practicing the ten virtues, one obtains liberation; practicing non-virtue, one falls into the lower realms. Thus, all good and bad actions are done by the mind.
