Emptiness! The tangible roughness is touch. This arises from one's own mind. The mind itself is primordially empty. Thus it is said. When Orgyen Rinpoche introduced the empowerment of clear words, he said: Alas! Son of lineage, look at the body of the Victorious Ones. It appears with many ornaments and attire. Grasping at appearances is one's own mind. Look at that, it is without foundation. Likewise, the form of appearances in the realm of mind. The realm itself is clear, but the essence is empty. That is the Dharmakaya of clarity and emptiness. Thus, when the sound of drums, cymbals, bells, temple drums, or small cymbals resounds, examine carefully whether this sound is pleasant or unpleasant, whether there is sound or not. Also investigate the source of its merits and faults. If its essence is not found, then that is the activity of sound and emptiness. Such are the meanings extensively spoken. Now, cast your consciousness, all of you, openly into the eastern sky. Is there going and coming in that? Likewise, let this mind go to the four directions of the sky. There is no one who goes other than one's own mind. Does that mind have an essence that can be identified? The meaning of that is also as Orgyen the Great said: Release your awareness in the four directions. At that time, there is no going or coming inside or outside. Even if you think you are going, it is your own mind. The mind is free from identification and grasping. That is the meaning of what was said. Likewise, in the Guhyasamaja Tantra of Hayagriva, it is said: If you realize the nature of mind, you become a Buddha. Do not seek a Buddha elsewhere. Thus it is said. The words of Orgyen the Great: In the beginning, it arises spontaneously without a place. The essence is emptiness, unborn. In the middle, there is no place to stay, no characteristics. The nature is merely clear. In the end, there is no certainty of going. The unceasing power is born and liberated. Co-liberation, without inherent nature, there is no example of suddenness. The essence is inexpressible, it is not existent. It transcends the example of color and characteristics. It is not non-existent, but self-aware, clear and empty, naked, bright, radiant, emptiness without a place, clarity without a trace. This self-face, self-clear, is indescribable. Self-face is clear, a definite understanding that cannot be seen. Seeing the meaning that transcends examples, the experience beyond words, the intention of Kuntuzangpo, the experience of yogis, the basis of delusion for sentient beings in the six realms. By experiencing and practicing this meaning, one will be liberated.
