Om, the Lama is the embodiment of all Buddhas, the Vajra Acharya. (Tibetan) As stated in the great Stainless Heart Essence Tantra: Before the Lama, there is no such thing as becoming a Buddha. The first Lama is the Buddha. The Lama is the self-born Buddha, the embodiment of all Buddhas, the nature of Vajradhara, the essence of the Three Jewels, from the state of Dharmakaya, manifesting the perfect Sambhogakaya, transforming into various Nirmanakayas, taming and benefiting beings in various ways, especially in the world of gods and humans, Vajradhara transforms into the human form. (Tibetan) As it is said, the Lama should be regarded as the embodiment of all Buddhas, and if one does not respect the Lama, what faults will there be? In the "Fifty Verses on the Guru," it says: If a disciple has intentional contempt for the Protector, it is contempt for all the Buddhas, and that person will always suffer. Curses against the Lama will bring plagues and various close diseases, as well as demons, epidemics, and poisons, and that ignorant person will be bound. Kings, fire, poisonous snakes, water, dakinis and robbers, as well as obstacles and evil guides, will also kill him and lead beings into hell. Never disturb the Guru's mind, and if done out of ignorance, one will surely fall into hell and suffer. Curses against the Guru will abide in the terrifying hells such as Avici, as stated in the scriptures. Therefore, make every effort not to slander the Vajra Guru who has great wisdom, and do not excessively boast of one's own merits. (Tibetan) Thus it is said. So, how should one rely on the Guru? From the Vajra Guru who has received empowerment, like the Buddhas, the Tathagatas, abiding in the ten directions of the world, come to prostrate in the three times. With great devotion, in the three times, with a mandala of flowers and folded hands, serve and worship the Guru, and prostrate at the Guru's feet with the crown of one's head. (Tibetan) Thus it is said. This is for the Vajra Guru who has qualities, one's own root Guru. So, what should be done if one has also received Dharma connections from those who do not have qualities, or ordinary people, etc.? In the text of the "Fifty Verses on the Guru," it says: For a householder or a newly ordained person, in order to avoid worldly condemnation, sacred Dharma and so on should be arranged in front, and asceticism should be practiced.

With the earth as a mat, prostrate with wisdom. Providing seats and standing up, and attending to affairs with reverence and respect. Those with virtuous conduct should show respect, abandoning what should not be prostrated to. One should give to whomever is appropriate, for it is always relied upon for the life of harms such as epidemics. What need is there to mention fluctuating enjoyments? If one gives in this very life, one should always protect one's own vows. For those who desire the inexhaustible, whatever is slightly pleasing will become generosity. Giving that is a collection of merit, so it is said. Then, how should one attend to and respect the noble lama? One should offer to the lama with respect, and afterwards, one will not be born in evil realms. The teacher of one's own vows, not giving away sons and wives, no matter what one does, in countless eons, it is countless and difficult to find. Even the Buddhas are diligent, always worshiping the Tathagatas, and always offering to the lamas. This is the same as all the Buddhas, and it is truly special. One should give this and that to the lama, and giving that to all the Buddhas, one will always obtain supreme accomplishment from the gathering. Therefore, a disciple with courage, possessing the qualities of discipline and patience, should not regard the lama and Vajradhara as different. Fearing the sin of destroying a stupa, one should not even step on the shadow, what need is there to mention shoes, cushions, and mounts? With great wisdom and joy, one should diligently listen to the lama's teachings. If one cannot do it with wisdom, one should purify it with words because one cannot do it. For the lama, one can obtain accomplishment, as well as heavenly realms and happiness. Therefore, with all effort, one should not transgress the lama's teachings. The lama's residence is like life, and the lama's suffering is also like the lama. One should treat his retinue like relatives, and always think of them equally. So it is said. How should one serve the lama? In the Indian treatise of the "Fifty Verses on the Guru," it says: Bedding, sitting, and going before, and embracing the crown of the head with the knees, and placing the feet on the seat, placing the hands on the waist and caressing, one should not do. When the lamas are standing or sitting, one should not lie down or sit down. Always for his affairs, one should be skilled at standing up and be perfectly complete. Discarding phlegm and mucus, and stretching the feet on the seat, and quarreling and speaking, one should not do in front of the lama. The end.
