Those people, even if they give large monasteries and offering places, small mountain retreat houses and fields, it is said that there are such great benefits. Furthermore, in the Sutra Explaining the Benefits of Giving, it says: If you give a vehicle, the ripening result is that you will fully attain the four miraculous legs. If you give silk, the ripening result is that among gods and humans, you will fully attain being bound by the silk of liberation. And, regarding the benefits of giving precious jewels, it is also said in the Sutra of Giving Paramita: Because of giving jewels and pearls, wherever one is born, in those places of birth, a rain of jewels will fall. And, regarding the benefits of giving horses, etc., it is said in that same sutra: Because of giving a vehicle, the great sage, from Buddha-field to Buddha-field, the wise one, like the power of a bird, travels in the sky by means of miraculous power. Thus, if you give alms, even if you die, you do not need suffering, in the realization of the power of merit it says: Those who, having abandoned stinginess, give alms at the appropriate time, even if they die, that is not death, like a guest with good provisions for the road. And, in the Sutra of the Three Dharmas, it also says: If you give alms at the appropriate time, even if you die, that is not death, like a guest with good provisions for the road. It is also said that if you respect your parents and provide them well with food and clothing, it is also a loving gift, and the benefits are great. In the Sutra of Parents, it says that parents are Brahma, and also the first teacher, the son should give everything, being both human and divine. Therefore, those two are places of reverence, wiping and bathing, etc., and also massaging the feet, or food and drink, etc., clothes and bedding cushions, etc., the wise should respect. Respecting parents, therefore those wise ones will not be blamed here, and death will also lead to a good rebirth. Regarding the differences in fields, it is said in the Abhidharmakosha: Even if they are not noble, to parents and the sick, as well as to those who speak the Dharma, and to the Bodhisattva who is the last of existence, the merit is immeasurable. Thus, the meaning of extensively explaining giving earlier, in Entering the Middle Way, it says: All these beings desire manifest happiness, and the happiness of people is not without enjoyment, and enjoyment is also...

Knowing the results of giving, the Able One first spoke the words of giving. Thus it is said. Offering and giving are the same in meaning, except for the superiority or inferiority of the place. As it is said in the Nirvana Sutra: Offering a little incense or a lamp, or a single flower, to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, one will be reborn in the immovable pure land. Also, as it is said in the Jataka: Always to those who possess discipline, give with giving adorned with respect. By placing wealth in the treasury in this way, it will follow and cannot be taken away. Also, as it is said in the Sutra Requested by the Noble Lion: By giving a lamp, one will obtain eyes; with the sound of musical instruments, the ears will be pleased; by giving a vehicle, one will obtain magical powers. Also, as it is said in the Sutra Called Offering Lamps: The benefits of offering lamps to the Three Jewels are: the ripening of offering lamps is that one will not lose mindfulness at the time of death; light will illuminate the directions; one will see beautiful forms that one has not seen before; after death, one will surely go to the heavens and know that one's body is sitting on the seat of the gods. Also: The great sage, the lord of boundless Dharma, for those stupas, if any wise person, by the action of offering lamps, will obtain boundless happiness, benefit, and wealth. Also: At the time of death, one will not experience suffering; the mind will also rejoice in the supreme and excellent Bodhi; the fear of death will not arise. Also: By offering lamps to the stupa of a sage, that body will be extremely bright, possessing glory that cannot be overcome by others, and will become the lord of a thousand gods. Also: The great sage offered lamps to the stupa, possessing enjoyment of renowned fame, and will be born in the most excellent family possessing excellent qualities; after birth, one will remember past lives, and will possess perfect retinue. And so on, extensively spoken. Also, as it is said in the Avalokiteshvara Sutra: If one offers a single lamp to a Buddha stupa, from here until the peak of existence, the Buddha land will be filled with gold of Jambudvipa; such glory cannot be exhausted; that body will not become ugly; possessing a supreme and beautiful form, with hands like an elephant's trunk; light will illuminate and travel throughout the world; even if there are hundreds of thousands of kotis of Buddha lands.
