Filled with mustard seeds, they can be counted, measured, and spoken of, but offering a single lamp to the Sugata is not like that. Thus it is said. By offering a lamp to the stupa of the Sugata, by the deed done by that, he himself will become a powerful wheel-turning monarch, possessing a pleasing appearance and a beautiful form, delightful to behold. Moreover, by offering a lamp to the stupa of the Sugata, one will possess the wisdom of liberation and the ten powers, likewise unmixed, reaching the other shore of the Dharma, possessing all-seeing eyes, becoming a Sugata. Thus it is said, in order to attain perfect enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings, it is important to offer as many lamps as possible, focusing on the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and the benefits of replenishing life-sustaining lamps, pouring peaceful and wrathful lamps, etc., are inconceivable. Then one must keep the precepts, as it is said in the "Friendly Epistle": "Precepts are like the earth, for wealth and non-wealth, they are well said to be the foundation of all virtues." And in the "Mindfulness Sutra": "Precepts are mantras, kings, thieves, fire, and water cannot steal the wealth of precepts, therefore precepts should always be taught." Also, in Vasubandhu's words on precepts: "What is the difference between the ocean and the footprint of an ox? The difference between generosity and precepts is like that. Giving alms with a mind of desire for a hundred years is surpassed by guarding precepts for one day, the difference between these two is great." Thus it is said. Such precepts have eight kinds of individual liberation precepts, among which the precepts to be kept by householders are the eight-part vows, so they must be kept. Its benefits are, as said by Indra: "On the eighth day of the waxing moon and in the month of miracles, if one keeps the eight-part vows, then he will become like me." To this, the Bhagavan declared: "Kauśika, do not say such words! On the eighth day of the waxing moon and in the month of miracles, if one keeps the eight-part vows, then he will become like me." Also, in the "Abiding Sutra," the benefits of the eight-part vows are extensively explained, and to summarize the meaning, the water of the great samudra counted by pots

Now it is possible to start observing. One fast cannot measure the amount of merit. Of two people, one gives alms for life, and the other keeps the fast for life, the two have equal merit. It is better to make offerings to all the Arhats filling the whole world with various jewels and utensils for the rest of their lives than to observe one fast, which is a hundred thousand times greater in merit. One fast can be reborn as a god from the Four Great Kings to the Paranirmitavasavartin. Therefore, keeping the fast will also meet Maitreya Buddha in the future. The Maitreya Prophecy Sutra says: "The fourteenth and fifteenth, as well as the eighth of the half month, and the month of miracles, the eight branches are well established, if you practice fasting and Uposatha, it is superior to my teachings." So it is said. Although the eight-branch fast can be eaten in the morning, the Sutra of Pure Food says: "If you can eat one meal a day, the accumulation of merit for sixty thousand days will increase." In particular, the incarnation King Songtsen Gampo and Padmasambhava and others said in unison that the eighth day is the descent of the Medicine Buddha, the fifteenth is Amitabha, and the thirtieth is the descent of Shakyamuni Buddha, so keeping one seat on that day will increase the merit a million times. In particular, the Sutra of the Establishment of the World says: "On the eighth day, the retinues of the Four Great Kings, on the fourteenth, the princes of the Four Great Kings, and on the fifteenth, the Four Great Kings will come in person to record the good and evil deeds of the people and hand them over to Yama, the King of Death. If you do good, the gods will be happy and report to Indra, and the gods will also protect you." Therefore, it is very important to try to keep one seat on those days. The dark moon is also the same, the twenty-third is the eighth of the dark moon, the twenty-ninth is the fourteenth of the dark moon, and the thirtieth is the fifteenth of the dark moon, so the benefits are the same as the white moon. In particular, the four great festivals, the Tibetan New Year, the month of miracles, from the first to the fifteenth, is the time when Shakyamuni Buddha showed great miracles, and the water month is now called the lamp month.
