The benefits of abandoning frivolous talk are: being born into a noble lineage, all words being pleasing, being unsurpassed by anyone, having pleasant speech, stable wealth and possessions, being born in higher realms, and attaining the fruits of whatever prayers are made. Abandon covetousness. The benefits of abandoning adultery are explained in the context of mindfulness: In this life, even if wealth is lost, it can be recovered; one is always endowed with wealth and cannot be overcome by others; in the next life, one is born as a god, not overcome or struck by asuras; all the gods find one delightful and one has great enjoyment; and whatever prayers are made are fulfilled until enlightenment. Furthermore, according to that sutra, The benefits of abandoning harmful intent are: in this life, one is wealthy and lives in comfort; all beings are happy and pleasing; one cannot be struck or harmed by others; one is free and liberated from the fears of the king's retinue, thieves, precipices, fire, water, and disturbances and harm; sinful beings will gather around virtuous beings like sons and brothers; in the next life, one has power over the enjoyments of the gods, all the gods are happy, and one is free from the conflicts of the asuras; whatever prayers are made are fulfilled until enlightenment. In particular, it is said that one also obtains seven kingdoms. The benefits of abandoning wrong views are also explained in the *Satipaṭṭhāna Sūtra*: abandoning all meaningless things, approaching nirvana, becoming distant from samsara, generating the mind of renunciation, etc., with extensive explanations of the benefits. The benefits of abstaining from alcohol, as stated in the *Satipaṭṭhāna Sūtra*: Because one does not rely on drinking alcohol, that person's memory is stable, speaks truthfully without delusion, is born possessing pleasant happiness, is very learned, upholds the Dharma, possesses wisdom, and desires liberation. Those who delight in qualities go near to the Joyful Land (Tushita). Therefore, abstaining from alcohol, except for tsok wine, is of great benefit. These are the categories of laypeople abandoning non-virtue and keeping vows, etc. The benefits of protection by the ordained are even greater. As stated in the *Sutra of the Fierce Question* and the *Sutra of Joyful Ordination*: "Living at home is the basis of misconduct; ordination is the basis of good conduct." And so forth, explaining that the ordained are a hundred times more superior to laypeople.

It is extensively explained. From the Sutra of the Wise and the Foolish: "Whoever goes forth, their merit is extremely vast. Whether my son or daughter, or servant goes forth, I allow it. If one goes forth oneself, the merit is immeasurable. If one were to build a stupa of seven precious jewels as large as Mount Meru, the merit would still be surpassed by going forth. Desiring virtuous Dharma, there is nothing more excellent than the Buddha's Dharma. For example, opening the eyes of a hundred blind people is also immeasurable merit. Therefore, whether one goes forth oneself or others go forth, the merit is inconceivable. If one guides and leads each other to go forth, their merit will cause them to experience immeasurable happiness among gods and humans, and ultimately attain perfect enlightenment." Thus it is said. In the Sutra of Displaying Great Miracles, it is said: "Whoever, for the sake of Bodhi, enters into all sentient beings of the great thousand worlds, with an unshakeable mind, completes kalpas, and gives away sons and wives, is surpassed by one who generates Bodhicitta for Bodhi, learns from the Tathagata, and takes one step with the mind of renunciation. That one's merit is far superior." Thus it is said. If one finds ways to bring oneself, one's sons, daughters, relatives, and retinue into the Dharma, the benefits are immeasurable. Next, the cultivation of patience is explained. From the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "Giving and the three other dharmas are mostly praised by the Sugatas for householders. The accumulation called merit is also that." Thus it is said. Although patience is of three types, now is the appropriate time to explain some of the benefits of enduring suffering. Prostrations, circumambulations, tsatsas, and other hardships done for the sake of the Dharma can be endured. First, the benefits of circumambulation are from the verses on circumambulating stupas: "Even for a moment, by circumambulating a stupa, the eight states of unfreedom will become empty." And, "By circumambulating a stupa, one becomes a Chakravartin king endowed with seven jewels, turning the wheel of Dharma. By circumambulating a stupa, one becomes a Tathagata in the worlds, adorned with golden bodies with various marks."
