May it be beneficial. (Tibetan) Similarly, on the root of thought, merit and sin coexist. (Tibetan) Thus it is said. Therefore, it is very important to strive for whatever virtue is accomplished with pure thought. The fifth Dharma discourse is completed. Next, the faults of non-virtuous sins are explained: The Vajra Verse says: Whatever sins are committed, one wanders in the six realms accordingly. (Tibetan) And, in its commentary, the Great Compassionate One himself said: Whatever sins are committed, one wanders in the six realms accordingly, such as ignorant animals, miserly hungry ghosts, etc. (Tibetan) Thus it is said. To explain its meaning in detail: In the Four Hundred Verses: Most people hold to the side that is not noble, therefore, ordinary people mostly certainly go to the lower realms. (Tibetan) And, in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: Suffering and discomfort, and all kinds of fears, and separation from desires, arise from the practice of sin. (Tibetan) Although the sinner desires happiness, wherever he goes, that sin will completely destroy him with a sword of suffering. (Tibetan) And, in the Compendium: Because one desires happiness for oneself, one is arrogant and commits sinful deeds, the ripening of that sinful deed will be experienced while weeping. (Tibetan) Rust forms on iron, and the rust that forms consumes itself, similarly, actions done without examination, one goes to the lower realms by one's own karma. (Tibetan) And, in the Precious Garland: Attachment, hatred, and ignorance, and the actions produced by them are non-virtuous, from non-virtue comes all suffering, likewise all the lower realms. (Tibetan) Moreover, for each non-virtuous act, there are three kinds of results: the result of ripening, the result of similarity, and the result of dominance. The result of similarity is stated in the Precious Garland: Killing leads to a short life, taking what is not given leads to loss of wealth, adultery is accompanied by enemies, lying leads to much slander, divisive speech leads to separation from friends, harsh speech leads to hearing unpleasant sounds, idle talk leads to impure speech, greed destroys hope in the mind, harmful intent causes fear, wrong view is wrong view itself, drinking alcohol confuses the mind, for humans, these results, the first of all is falling into the lower realms. (Tibetan) Thus it is said, by the result of ripening one falls into the lower realms, and even if one is liberated from there and reborn as a human, there is still the result of similarity.

Thus it transforms. The fruit of maturation is: In the Jewel Garland, it says that hatred throws one into hell, attachment leads to the world of hungry ghosts, and ignorance mostly leads to rebirth as animals. The opposite leads to being a god or a human. As stated in the Sutra of the Arrangement of the World: 'Having committed misdeeds with the body, and all those who commit misdeeds with speech, and having committed misdeeds with the mind, sentient beings are born in the hells. Hating each other and harboring malice, people quarrel with each other, for hundreds of thousands of years, they are born in Punarujjīvana. Forcing others to do what should not be done, separating people's friendships, and speaking false words, they are born in Thiknag. Oxen, goats, sheep, buffalo, and deer, pigs, and birds, likewise killing other lives, they are born in Samghata. By killing, sentient beings are chased and drink blood, and practice all evil deeds, they go to Raurava. Covered by dark views, bound by the bonds of existence, and practicing holy deeds, they are born in Maharaurava. Monks, Brahmins, virtuous ones, likewise parents, and other gurus, whoever kills them, they are burned in Atapta. Whoever says what is not Dharma is Dharma, and what is not Dharma is Dharma, slanders holy beings, and holds nihilistic views, falls into Avīci.' Attachment, ignorance, and terrible anger, people killing people, and killing other beings, they will surely be reborn in Punarujjīvana. Stealing the property of gods, sages, and Brahmins, killing ascetics, oxen, buffalo, goats, sheep, and deer, pigs, and vultures, likewise killing other lives, they are born in Samghata. Those who hate parents, Buddhas, and Shravakas, forcing others to do what should not be done, separating people's friendships, gossiping, lying, and deceiving, they are born in Thiknag. Destroying ascetic vows, killing sentient beings and possessions, secretly giving alcohol to those who hold vows, they are born in Raurava. Stealing the property of gods, sages, and Brahmins, killing ascetics, lying, slandering, and deceiving, they go to Maharaurava. Burning monasteries or the solitary places of the Sangha and forest fires.
