Close relatives and unfinished words, unfinished work, unfinished clothes, unfinished food, even beds, bodies, utensils, and bowls, etc., will be left behind, empty! Leaving emptiness! One must leave from the ranks around the stove! Inevitably leaving behind words like 'He died! She died!'

Similarly, the Bodhisattvacharyavatara states: 'This body, sustained by food and clothing, acquired through much hardship, will not accompany you; it will be eaten by birds and beasts, or consumed by blazing fire, or rot in water, or be buried under the earth.' Thus it is said. Therefore, it is crucial to constantly remember, three times a day, not to forget death, and from today until tomorrow, to single-mindedly meditate on death. What are the benefits of meditating on death? The Bhagavan said: 'If you meditate extensively on impermanence, it is as if you have made offerings to all the Buddhas; if you meditate extensively on impermanence, it is as if you have received the breath of all the Buddhas; if you meditate extensively on impermanence, it is as if you have received the prophecies of all the Buddhas; if you meditate extensively on impermanence, it is as if you have received the blessings of all the Buddhas.' For example, among all footprints, the elephant's footprint is the most supreme. Similarly, among all the meditative concepts of Buddhism, only the concept of meditating on impermanence is the most supreme. Furthermore, the Mahaparinirvana Sutra states: 'Among all the fields that are plowed, the autumn harvest is the most supreme; among all footprints, the footprint of the ox is the most supreme; among all concepts, the concepts of impermanence and death are the most supreme, for these eliminate all desires, ignorance, and pride of the three realms.' Thus it is said, and the previous accomplished masters and vidyadharas were also awakened by death, abandoning this life, reducing expenses on food, clothing, and talk, and single-mindedly engaging in practice, thus appearing to achieve accomplishment. Ordinary people forget the Dharma, those with wealth are bound by stinginess, those with power commit great sins, evil people commit various kinds of inexcusable sins, and those who enter the Dharma gate do not persevere to the end—all of this is due to the fault of not remembering death. Therefore, now it is crucial for you all to single-mindedly meditate on death and impermanence. Now, it is crucial to generate an understanding of impermanence and never forget it. The third Dharma session is concluded. Then, explaining the law of karma: The Vajra Verse states: 'If you strive in virtuous Dharma, you will attain Buddhahood; whatever sins you commit, you will wander in the corresponding six realms.' Thus it is said. And, in its auto-commentary, spoken by Avalokiteshvara: 'Virtue'
