听闻使心欢喜，善妙欢喜即是正法，生智慧且无愚痴。 如《胜幢臂问经》所说：“听闻是遣除愚痴黑暗之明灯，是盗贼等无法取走之殊胜财宝，是摧毁普遍愚昧之利器，是开示方便诀窍之殊胜友伴，是纵然衰败亦不变之挚友，是无有损害、医治忧伤疾病之良药，是摧毁巨大罪恶军队之殊胜军队，亦是名声与荣耀之殊胜宝藏，与贤善之人相遇是殊胜之诞生。 于众会之中，令智者欢喜，于外道之攻难，如太阳之光芒。”又如《听闻品》所说：“譬如善加守护之房屋，入于黑暗笼罩之内，事物纵然存在，如盲人般无法看见。如是，于此处，具种姓之人，纵然具有智慧，若未听闻罪恶与善法，亦无法知晓。如眼明之人，凭借灯火得以看见事物一般，如是，凭借听闻，得以了知善与恶之法。”又如《无热恼子所问经》所说：“种姓之子，若具听闻，则生智慧；若具智慧，则烦恼得以寂灭；无有烦恼，则魔不得便。”又说：“听闻具有无垢之光辉，听闻能使人远离罪恶。”《宝积经》中说：“未听闻则无法了知善与恶之法，听闻之后则能辨别诸法，听闻之后则不造作罪恶，听闻之后则断除罪恶，听闻之后则获得寂灭，听闻之后则增长智慧，凭借智慧而行持诸义，见义之后则获得安乐，获得安乐则能调伏自心，于此生中获得寂灭。”如是宣说，这些是总的听闻佛法之利益，特别是邬金仁波切（莲花生大师）的甚深法要，若能修持，则一生即可成佛，纵然未能修持，仅听闻一次法之传承，亦能断除诸多恶趣之门，邬金仁波切亲口说：“仅得传承，亦断恶趣之生。”

Hearing makes the mind joyful, and perfect joy is the Dharma itself, giving rise to wisdom and freedom from ignorance. As stated in the Sutra Requested by Prince Moon, "Hearing is the lamp that dispels the darkness of ignorance, the supreme treasure that thieves and others cannot carry away, the weapon that destroys universal delusion, the supreme friend who reveals methods and instructions, the unchanging friend even in decline, the harmless medicine for sorrow and disease, the supreme army that destroys the forces of great evil, and also the supreme treasure of fame and glory. Meeting with virtuous people is the supreme birth. In the assembly, it pleases the wise, and against external adversaries, it is like the rays of the sun." Furthermore, as stated in the Chapter on Hearing, "Just as a well-guarded house, when entered into darkness, even though objects are present, they cannot be seen as if one were blind. Similarly, here, a person of noble birth, even if endowed with intelligence, cannot know sinful and virtuous dharmas until they have heard them. Just as a sighted person sees objects with a lamp, so too, through hearing, one comes to understand virtuous and sinful dharmas." Also, as stated in the Sutra Requested by Sredmed's Son, "Son of noble family, if one possesses hearing, wisdom will arise; if one possesses wisdom, afflictions will be thoroughly pacified; without afflictions, the demons cannot find an opportunity." It is also said, "Hearing has the splendor of being without impurity; hearing turns one away from sin." In the Heap of Jewels Sutra, it says, "Without hearing, one cannot know virtuous and sinful dharmas; having heard, one discerns all dharmas; having heard, one does not solidify sin; having heard, one abandons sin; having heard, one attains nirvana; having heard, wisdom increases; with wisdom, one practices the meanings; having seen the meaning, one attains happiness; having attained that, one tames the mind; in this life, one attains nirvana." As it is said, these are the general benefits of listening to and hearing the Dharma. In particular, these profound teachings of Orgyen Rinpoche (Guru Rinpoche), if practiced, one can attain enlightenment in one lifetime; even if not practiced, merely receiving the transmission of the Dharma once will cut off the gates to many lower realms. Orgyen Rinpoche himself said, "Merely receiving the transmission cuts off birth in the lower realms."
