Therefore, there are two purposes for going to these special places: temporary and ultimate. The temporary purpose is for virtuous deeds to increase naturally; the ultimate purpose is to quickly stabilize in the wisdom of Dharmadhatu. As stated in the "Place Ra Lung": "It is a place, or a place blessed by the footprints of previous accomplished ones, or generally a place that is quiet and pleasant, clear and with abundant favorable conditions, free from the disturbance of distractions and rude people." Although it is said so extensively, any quiet place is fine as long as there is no disturbance from humans and non-humans. The characteristics of time are: the time to start the preliminary Dharma practice should be on auspicious dates and constellations; when actually introducing, Orgyen Rinpoche said: In late summer and early autumn, and late winter and early spring, when there is no fog, dust, or hail, and the sky is very clear, the wisdom of Dharmadhatu will appear. Especially when introducing, it will be very clear during the time of Gemini. Therefore, special times have two merits: temporarily, the introduction will be quick; ultimately, the increase in practice will be great. Thus, the benefits of explaining the characteristics of time are explained. The sutra says: For whose benefit, my Dharma, truthfully and accurately explained, is offering; flowers, incense, and lamps are the true offering to the Victorious Ones. It is said that if you teach the Dharma, it is the supreme offering to all Buddhas. The Maitreya Lion's Roar Sutra says: Filling countless worlds with gold like the sands of the Ganges and giving it away is not as good as reciting a single verse in an evil age; the benefit of that is incomparable. It is said that this is more excellent than material giving. Also, in the same sutra, it says: Filling countless Buddha fields like the sands of the Ganges with seven precious gems, and then offering them to the Buddhas with joy, is not as good as giving a single verse to one sentient being. Such a vast offering of jewels, compared to the offering of a verse accomplished with compassion, is like raindrops that cannot be counted, and two or three are unimaginable. Also, the Golden Light Sutra says: Shariputra, among all the offerings, I say that the offering of Dharma is supreme. And in the Ratnakuta Sutra

Even beyond these, if someone fills excellent realms with jewels, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, and offers them to the Victorious Ones with the most excellent virtuous mind, it is better to give a single verse to one sentient being. Giving vast amounts of jewels in generosity is surpassed by giving a verse motivated by compassion; the merit of that is so great that even rain cannot compare, and it cannot be counted. Thus it is said. Furthermore, in the Sutra Requested by the Naga King Ocean, it is said that the generosity of Dharma obtains clairvoyance. In the Sutra Requested by the Lion, it is said that the generosity of Dharma causes one to remember past lives. In the King of Samadhi Sutra, it is said many times that the generosity of Dharma is far superior to the generosity of material things, and it is also said that one quickly attains Buddhahood. In the Sutra Encouraging Excellent Intention, twenty benefits of teaching the Dharma are mentioned. Therefore, to mock or slander the teaching of the Dharma, and to mock or slander the realizations offered by Dharma friends and Dharma discussions, is a very great fault. In the Sutra of the Buddha Who Does Not Abandon, it is said that there are immeasurable faults in slandering a Dharma speaker with accusations of being a woman. Therefore, even if one sees a Dharma speaker directly, one should not speak of them with accusations of immoral conduct; what need is there to mention what one has heard? Son of good family, it is a greater transgression to look at a Dharma speaker with a mind of hatred than to pluck out the eyes of all sentient beings. If one turns one's back and sits away from a Dharma speaker, it is not even close to one-hundredth of the previous fault compared to binding all sentient beings. Why is that? Because slandering a Dharma speaker is the same as slandering the Buddha. Those who wish to honor, make offerings to, and prostrate to the Buddha should honor, make offerings to, and prostrate to the Dharma speaker. Why is that? Because the All-Knowing One arises from the Bodhisattva. Thus it is said. Having heard such profound Dharma, if one practices it, one will attain Buddhahood in one lifetime. Even if one does not understand its meaning or attain realization, the benefit of hearing the Dharma is immeasurable. In the Bodhisattva Pitaka, it is said: "Hearing obtains Nirvana." And in the Jataka tales, it is said: "Whoever...
