Guru Rinpoche said: "Those who are eloquent but have bad lineage, those who hold ritual implements but ask for emptiness, those who are knowledgeable but do not practice according to the instructions and are attached to this life, those who think they can easily obtain the instructions and are distracted, those who have no samaya and argue about kindness, those who do not see virtues but find faults, such students are demons of Dharma and should be abandoned." Also, as it is said in the Explanatory Tantra Vajra Garland: "Just as a lion's milk should not be placed in an earthen vessel, similarly, the tantra of the great yogi should not be given to those who are not vessels." So, what is a qualified vessel like? In the Fruit Completion Liberation Lineage it says: "Teach this to a son who has five qualities. He is fortunate, with good conduct and good behavior, of good lineage, not fond of crowds, and broad-minded, respectful to the lama, diligent in practice, with great wisdom, able to endure suffering, and great compassion, and devoted to accomplishing whatever service is instructed." And Guru Rinpoche said: "Seek those who have great wisdom and can endure suffering, who have devotion, pure perception, renunciation, and great sorrow, who can give up this life and practice with their lives, who listen to whatever is said and have unwavering devotion. And seek those who have faith, diligence, wisdom, and great compassion, who do not abandon pure perception and devotion, who are generous, who listen to whatever is said and keep their vows, who are broad-minded, wise, and diligent in practice, who have good lineage, are few in words, and have diligent asceticism. Seek them from two, three, or even a hundred!" It is said. Furthermore, the Dakini Heart Drop speaks of nineteen characteristics of students, and the Great Perfection Aro Hearing Lineage speaks of fourteen characteristics of students, etc. If the Great Perfection teachings are given to such students, it is intended that they will perfect the four visions in one lifetime and one body, and thus attain Buddhahood in the realm of primordial purity. As for the vessel for teaching the Tsok Dharma, it is sufficient to have great faith. The Sutra of the Magical Net says: "For a person with faith, all natural accomplishments will be achieved. Just as in a clear vessel, the reflection of the non-conceptual moon appears." And the Sutra Requested by Anavatapta says: "For the white Dharma of faith, one should go first and generate it. Those who wish to end suffering and go to happiness, should have the root of faith and generate the mind towards enlightenment."

(Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) means "steadfast." In the first chapter of the 'Arrangement of the Magical Net,' it says: 'Loving virtue and meditation, Always respecting the lama, Constantly making offerings to the deities, If one possesses these qualities, they are a disciple.' Also, in the 'Heap of Jewels Sutra,' it says: 'Faith is a treasure, wealth, and the supreme foot, Like a hand, it is the root of accumulating merit. The power of faith cannot be stolen by others, It is the foundation for completely eliminating afflictions.' Furthermore, in the 'Tala Sutra of the Jewels,' it says: 'Faith arises first like a mother, It gathers and increases all qualities. It eliminates needs and liberates from all rivers. Faith is a symbol representing the city of bliss. Faith is without impurities and tames the mind; Abandoning pride, it is the root of respect. Faith is a treasure, wealth, and the supreme foot; Like a hand, it is the root of accumulating merit.' As it is said, if one has steadfast faith, they can become a vessel for receiving this Dharma. Even if it is difficult to possess all the qualities of a disciple, this Dharma should not be taught to those without faith, respect, or with wrong views, nor should they listen to it. Because this is the pinnacle of the nine vehicles, the Great Perfection, which is even more secret than the secret mantras, an exceedingly profound and precious Dharma, like a jewel on the head of a poisonous snake. Orgyen Rinpoche said: 'My treasure Dharma is extremely precious, For example, like a jewel on the head of a poisonous snake.' Therefore, it is very important for you to generate faith in order to become suitable vessels. What is this faith like? In the 'Garland of Jewels,' it says: 'Desire, hatred, fear, and ignorance, Whichever does not transgress the Dharma, That is called a faithful one, Surely the supreme, excellent vessel.' Also, in the 'Collection of Specially Expressed Verses,' it says: 'Desiring to see the noble ones, Delighting in hearing the sacred Dharma, Completely abandoning the stain of miserliness, That is called a faithful one.' As it is said, although there are many aspects of faith, if one possesses the desire to see the noble ones or the lama, and the desire to hear profound Dharma from them, and is not bound by miserliness despite having wealth, these three constitute a faithful one. Thus, if a qualified lama and a qualified disciple are both present, how should one rely on the lama? In the 'Collection of Noble Ones Sutra,' it says: 'Good disciples who are respectful to the lama, Should always rely on wise lamas. Why? Because the qualities of wisdom arise from that.'
