Hrih! The excellent one, steadfast in diligence, well-knowing, proclaims. Thus, not seeing people who are poor and suffering, I have given away my cherished body, and I have made them rich with my wealth. Thus, when I became the king of men here, seeing the dove that had come for refuge, I cut off flesh from my own body, and I certainly gave up my body, not abandoning it out of fear. When I was formerly known as King Matted Hair, the supreme physician, for my sake, compounded all the incomparable medicines, and I gave them to others, giving up my life. Thus, when I was Prince Moonlight, the unpleasant-eyed one became angry, and when he raised my head, at that time my head was cut off and given away. Thus, when I was formerly King Possessed of Desire, the hands and feet that were as soft and tender as cotton petals and lotus petals, I also gave away. Thus, when I became the king of stainless purity, golden in color, I gave away the extensive webbing between my fingers. When I was called King Utpala Eye, the eye that resembled the color of a blue lotus, pleasing and dear to the heart, I gave it away for the sake of beings. Thus, when I became All-Seeing in a former existence, not seeing a sick person afflicted by disease, when I also gave my own blood, I freed that person from disease. When I was called King Good Flower, I took bones from my body and gave them to one emaciated by disease, and I never abandoned sentient beings. When I was formerly known as Prince Accomplishment of Meaning, I gave away all my treasures, and giving up my cherished and pleasing life, I liberated the impoverished. When I became the lord of the directions, desiring enlightenment, for the sake of beings, I gave away my lotus-like hand marked with a wheel, without hesitation. Thus, when I became the king's daughter Possessed of Wisdom, the soft and tender, stainless white thighs, I cut off with a joyful and contented mind, and nourished the speaker of the Dharma with my own flesh and blood. When I was called Woman Possessed of Beautiful Form, seeing a woman faint from hunger and thirst, the breasts that were golden in color, beautiful, and very young.

I gave up both sufferings, it is said. When beings become cold and shivering, fearing that ants and other creatures would die, I gave up my body without regard for its preciousness, it is said. In the past, when I became a fish swimming in the water, I gave up my body for the benefit of sentient beings, and was eaten by hundreds and thousands of beings. When beings became fat, seeing beings afflicted by hundreds of diseases, my body was also transformed into medicine, making beings happy and free from disease, it is said. In other sutras it is also said: I was once Prince Sūśadhīva, at that time those who were my parents were in another place, and for my parents who were afflicted by extreme hunger, I gave up my own flesh without hesitation. When I became the power of compassion, in order to fully nourish the five flesh-eating brothers, I gave up my flesh along with my own blood, generating the thought of attaining supreme Bodhi. When I became King Namkha, along with all the perfectly complete enjoyments, I also gave up my own body, firmly resolving towards unsurpassed Bodhi. When I became King Norjen, at that time for the beings of my body, I performed vast benefits, and for the sake of Bodhi I gave up my body, it is said. And, flesh and skin, as well as bones and blood, these were given as charity from my own body, and so on, it is widely spoken. As it is widely stated in the sutras and Jataka tales, in the past the Blessed One also gave away his body, flesh, and blood, and there are countless stories. That is the conduct of those who have attained the Bodhisattva grounds, and it is permissible for ordinary individuals to give up their entire body and serve as servants of sentient beings, but it is not permissible to cut and chop the body and give away flesh and blood. Because one cannot endure the pain, regret arises and it is difficult to walk the path of Dharma, as it is said in the Bodhicaryāvatāra: Without purifying the mind of compassion, this body should not be given away. It is said. However, in the Jataka tales of the Blessed One in the past, the ways of giving the body are widely spoken of, and the meaning of that is to practice the profound secret instructions, called accumulating the merit of Kuśali, this is to meditate on the object of offering the imagined body in charity. For this there are also the four teachings of the great cutting river, and especially that composed by Orgyen Rinpoche, the Lama...
