It is said that one will be transformed into a goat. A shepherd boy placed a small amount of dropped curd residue into an ant nest, and later he was reborn as the king of a great country. Also, someone burned and ate roasted zanba mixed with butter, and when the oil dripped into the lamp, he prayed to the fire god. In his next life, when he was born as a human, the fire god granted him accomplishments, and he obtained immeasurable enjoyment. A beetle carried by the water circled around a stupa, and eventually he was reborn as a householder named Pal Kye, and attained the state of an Arhat. Like these examples, if one acts with pure intention, even small actions can bring great benefits. Therefore, it is important not to despise small virtues but to strive to accumulate them. Likewise, the key to generating benefits is having a pure intention. As Āryadeva says in his "Cleansing of Mental Obscurations": "With a good intention, placing a shoe on the head of the Buddha, and another removing it, both will lead to obtaining a kingdom. Likewise, the root of merit and demerit lies in intention." Therefore, it is important to strive to accomplish all virtues with a pure intention. This is the fifth teaching session. Next, the faults of non-virtuous actions, or sins, are explained. The "Vajra Verses" states: "Whatever sins are committed, one wanders in the six realms accordingly." The great compassionate one himself explained this: "Whatever sins are committed, one wanders in the six realms accordingly, such as the ignorant animals, the miserly pretas, and so on." To explain this in more detail, the "Four Hundred Verses" states: "Most people tend to side with what is not Dharma. Therefore, ordinary beings mostly go to the lower realms." Furthermore, the "Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life" states: "Suffering, discomfort, various fears, and separation from desires all arise from committing sins. Those who commit sins may desire happiness, but wherever they go, their sins will destroy them with the sword of suffering." Moreover, the "Compendium" states: "For the sake of one's own happiness, acting arrogantly and committing sinful deeds, the ripening of those sins will be experienced while weeping. Just as rust arises on iron, and that rust consumes the iron itself, similarly, actions done without careful consideration lead one to the lower realms due to one's own karma."
