The benefits of approaching nirvana, distancing oneself from samsara, and generating the mind of renunciation, etc., are extensively explained. The benefits of abstaining from alcohol: From the *Dran Nye* (Mindfulness Sutra): "Because one does not rely on drinking alcohol, that person's memory is stable, speaks truthfully without confusion, and is born in a place with pleasant ease. They are learned, uphold the Dharma, possess wisdom, and desire liberation. People who delight in qualities, they go near to Tushita." Therefore, abstaining from alcohol, except for tsok alcohol, has great benefits. These are in the context of laypeople abandoning non-virtue and keeping vows such as fasting. The benefits of monastics keeping vows are even greater. In the *Drangshul Chen Gyi Zhus Pai Do* (Sutra Requested by the Fierce One) and the *Gawowo Rabtu Jungwai Do* (Sutra of Joyful Ordination): "Living at home is the basis for misconduct. Ordination is the basis for good conduct." And so on, extensively explaining how ordination is a hundred times more superior to being a householder. In the *Do De Dzang Lun* (Sutra of the Wise and Foolish): "Whoever is ordained, their merit is extremely great. Allowing my son, daughter, or servant to be ordained, or ordaining oneself, the merit is immeasurable. If one were to make a stupa of Mount Meru from the seven precious substances, the merit would still be surpassed by ordination. Desiring virtuous Dharma, there is nothing more supreme than the Buddha's Dharma. For example, opening the eyes of a hundred blind people also has immeasurable merit. Even better than that, if oneself or another is ordained, the merit is inconceivable. If oneself and others are ordained, and one guides and leads another, with that merit, one experiences immeasurable happiness among gods and humans, and ultimately attains perfect enlightenment." Thus it is said. In the *Cho Trul Chenpo Tenpai Do* (Sutra of Displaying Great Miracles): "Whatever countless sentient beings, who have entered ordination for the sake of enlightenment, with unwavering minds complete an eon, is superior to giving away sons and wives. Whoever generates the mind towards enlightenment, and thus learns the teachings of the Sugata, taking one step with the mind of renunciation, that is superior and the merit is especially excellent." Thus it is said. If one makes efforts to bring oneself, one's sons, daughters, relatives, and associates into the Dharma, the benefits are immeasurable.

Therefore, it is said (in the scriptures) to cultivate patience. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: "The Thus Gone One mostly praises these three dharmas, such as generosity, for householders; that itself is also called the accumulation of merit." Therefore, although there are three types of patience, now is the time to speak about the benefits of some aspects of enduring suffering, that is, being able to endure the hardships of prostrations, circumambulations, clay images, etc., for the sake of the Dharma. First, the benefits of circumambulation are: In the verses of the "Sutra on the Benefits of Circumambulating Stupas," it says: "Even for a brief moment, circumambulating a stupa will purify the eight unfree states." It also says: "Circumambulating a stupa will make one a wheel-turning king with the seven precious things, turning the wheel of Dharma. By circumambulating a stupa, one will become a Thus Gone One in the world, adorned with marks, and obtain a golden body." Also, in the Avalokiteśvara Sutra, it says: "Circumambulating a stupa will make one's diligence firm, one's power firm, firm and able to completely subdue, and one will quickly become wise." Also, in the "Sutra Requested by King Clear Light," it says: "Those who circumambulate the stupa of the Sage or images with faith will be revered by great enemies in future times, become a vessel of goodness, and possess all qualities." And so on, therefore the benefits of circumambulation are vast. The benefits of prostration are also mentioned in the Avalokiteśvara Sutra: "If one were to serve hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddhas for hundreds of millions of kalpas, it would be better to prostrate to a stupa once in this terrible age of the future, for the merit of that is greater. Prostrating to a Buddha's stupa with palms joined, one will be born in the heavenly realms, become a king of the gods, and even if reborn as a human, one will become a king of humans, and one will never decline. Prostrating to a Buddha's stupa with palms joined, one will never fall into the lower realms again; in this world, one will always be free from desires, become wealthy among the wealthy, and possess many treasures." Also, in the "Sutra Requested by King Clear Light," it says: "Those who bow their heads and respectfully prostrate to a Buddha's stupa or images will be greatly
