Abandoning the distinctions of this and that, the act of liberating life is also a vow not to kill that very sentient being, and it is also a gift of loving-kindness. As stated in the Mindfulness Sutra: 'Giving life is the best of gifts.' Therefore, liberating life can also lead to longevity in this life and is the best of rituals. Giving life is the best of gifts, so liberating life, especially when leaders do not kill those who deserve to be killed for their heinous crimes but instead liberate them, has immeasurable benefits. Liberating life for the sake of the deceased has great benefits, as stated in the chapter on the Dharma of Birth, Death, and Cyclic Existence: 'All the deceased who are killed by executioners, liberating life instead of killing.' In the Sutra of the Layered Mansion, it is said: 'If one abstains from killing for even one day and upholds it properly, one will not be born in an age of weapons.' The benefits of abandoning taking what is not given are also explained in the Mindfulness Sutra, summarized as follows: Abandoning taking what is not given, everything in this life becomes trustworthy and pleasing, enjoyment is constant, and there will be no calamities from kings, water, thieves, or fire. In the next life, one will be born in the heavens, and whatever wishes one makes, from Brahma and Indra to the Buddha, will be fulfilled. Taking what is not given refers to robbery and theft. Those who do not engage in such bad habits, by not doing what they should not do, and taking the vow and precepts of abandoning taking what is not given, will have even greater benefits. The benefits of abandoning sexual misconduct out of desire are also summarized from the meaning of that same sutra: In this life, one will be praised and trusted, even when among women there is no need, kings and ministers will trust, and one will have the fortune to be liberated from suffering. The result is also that one will obtain the happiness of whatever wishes one has made. The benefits of abandoning falsehood are also summarized from the meaning of the Mindfulness Sutra: Abandoning falsehood, one will become trustworthy, even without wealth, others will give, one will not become poor, one will be of noble birth, have a beautiful form, be loved and pleasing to all, one's words will be trusted, flesh-eaters and yakshas will not see or harm one, even if one goes to another country one will be prosperous, whatever one thinks will be accomplished, and after experiencing the supreme happiness of humans, one will be born in the heavens.

Furthermore, if we summarize the meaning spoken in the Sutra itself: If one abandons divisive speech, in this life, relatives and retinues will be stable, and others will not be able to separate them; even if one is separated from wealth, relatives and retinues will not abandon or separate from them; one will be stable in the retinue of the king, and there will be no fear of water, weapons, and unfriendly people. In the future, one will be born accordingly, and it is said that whatever aspirations one makes, the fruits will be accomplished.
