These are the great terrors of untimely death shown by the Tathagata. Moreover, untimely deaths are countless and immeasurable. Thus it is said. Therefore, there are many causes of death that harm life, such as four hundred and four diseases and eighty thousand demonic obstacles. Although medicine, food, and clothing are the causes of life, they themselves can become causes of death if used improperly. Dying to obtain food and clothing, children being suffocated by clothing, food poisoning, and incorrect use of medicine are all common causes of death. The lack of essence in the body is also a definite cause of death. This body contains nothing but thirty-six impure substances; there is not a single solid essence. The Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra states: First, separate this layer of skin with your own wisdom. From the network of flesh and sinews, separate it with the sword of wisdom. Also, separate the bones and examine them down to the soles of the feet. What essence is there in this? Examine it yourself. The Ratnakūṭa Sūtra states: Form is like a bubble; no essence can be found in it. Thus it is said. The method of contemplating death through examples is as follows: An arrow shot into the sky does not stay for even a moment but goes; water flows downward; like the steps of someone being led to the execution ground, we are close to death. The Compendium states: Like the flow of a turbulent river, which cannot be reversed, so too does the life of a person go, never to return. Thus it is said. The Compendium states: Like the flow of a great river, it goes never to return. Thus it is said. The Root of the Tree states: Like a prisoner being led to the execution ground, with each step he takes, he draws closer to death. Thus it is said. For example, a strong man loads an arrow onto a bow, and without stopping, it quickly goes to its target; the lives of people are also like that. Thus it is said. Another way to contemplate impermanence is: It is said that it is easier to generate the thought of impermanence by contemplating it in a charnel ground. We should count how many people have died in the place and village where we live, and how many people of our own age have died. They could not stay even though many people wanted them to. I must think that I am the same. Also, when you see a corpse or bones, alas, I will be like that.

One must contemplate the future; from the collection of specifically stated verses: "The corpse of another abandoned in the charnel ground, Limbs and form scattered, Bones resembling the color of ashes, Having gone to be scattered in the ten directions, My own body will also be like that." Thus it is said. From the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: "Having gone to the charnel ground, the bones of others, And my own body, Which are by nature subject to decay, When will I make them equal?" Thus it is said. The meaning of these, Orgyen Rinpoche said: "Without understanding the non-conceptual, without reliance, Still clinging and attached to this samsara, In the state of desiring happiness, life passes in suffering." Thus it is said. "In distraction, the life of leisure and opportunity is wasted." Thus it is said. "A dying patient is like a lamp with exhausted oil, When the causes for the increase of life are exhausted, there is no power to remain." Thus it is said. "Even if there is time to practice Dharma, There is no certainty whether one will die today or tomorrow, Think well about it." Today, people with radiant faces, Tomorrow, corpses stiff and black, are countless. Those From page 101 to 200. Also, there is no thought that "I will die tomorrow," There is no reliance on the four elements, not even enough time to eat a single bite of food, The breath is just a puff of air, The warmth is like a spark, it is cut off in an instant, it is amazing! Think well about it! All who were born in the past have died, All who will be born in the future will also die, All who exist now are also like that. Decaying! Everything will die. There is no distinction between young and old in age, There is no distinction between good and bad in appearance, One will surely die, and there is no certainty when one will die. Close ones and unfinished words, Unfinished tasks, Unworn clothes, Uneaten food, Bedding and personal belongings, even bowls and plates, Everything is unfinished, Empty, One must leave the ranks of the hearth, Someone died, Someone died, apart from leaving these words behind, One must leave alone from the midst of everyone, like pulling a hair from butter, it is frightening to think that such a time will come! Also, Orgyen Rinpoche said: "Inner sentient beings are impermanent, All who were in the world in the past have died, All who are on the earth now will die. In the kingdom, wars and conflicts, dying by swords. Who died, who died, how many died? Hearing how many, it is meaningless, contemplate it as a great fault." Then, again, whatever my memory is, Villagers, townspeople, paternal brothers, relatives, close and distant, Lamas, great beings,
