Regarding such diligence, even raindrops cannot compare, and the number cannot be calculated, let alone two or three! Thus it is said. In the Sutra of Golden Light, it is said: Shariputra, among all the gifts, the gift of Dharma is the most supreme, I say thus. In the Ratnakuta Sutra, it is also said: Some people fill countless worlds with treasures as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, and offer them to the Buddhas with supreme virtuous minds, but it is not as good as someone who speaks a single verse to one sentient being. The vast merit of giving treasures cannot compare to the merit of speaking a single verse with compassion. Even raindrops cannot compare, and the number cannot be calculated. Thus it is said. Furthermore, in the Sutra Requested by the Dragon King Sagara, it is said that the gift of Dharma obtains clairvoyance. In the Sutra Requested by the Lion, it is said that the gift of Dharma enables one to remember past lives. In the Samadhiraja Sutra, it is said that the gift of Dharma is far superior to the gift of material things, and it is also said that one can quickly attain Buddhahood. In the Sutra of Encouraging Excellent Resolve, twenty benefits of expounding the Dharma are mentioned. Therefore, to revile and slander the expounding of the Dharma, and to revile and slander the offerings of realization and Dharma talks of Dharma friends, etc., the fault is very great. In the Sutra of Not Abandoning the Buddha, it is said that to slander a Dharma speaker with regard to women has immeasurable faults. Therefore, even if you see a Dharma speaker with your own eyes, you should not judge them with the precepts of a broken vow, let alone what you have heard. Son of good family, compared to gouging out the eyes of all sentient beings, if one looks at a Dharma speaker with a hateful mind, that is a very serious offense. Compared to binding all sentient beings, if one sits with their back to a Dharma speaker, the fault is a hundred times greater than the former. Why is that? Because to slander a Dharma speaker is to slander the Buddha. Those who wish to respect, make offerings to, and prostrate to the Buddha should respect, make offerings to, and prostrate to the Dharma speaker. Why is that? Because the all-knowing one arises from the Bodhisattvas. Thus it is said. Such profound Dharma...

If, after hearing, one puts it into practice, one will attain Buddhahood in a single lifetime. Even if one does not understand the meaning and does not gain experience, the benefits of hearing the Dharma are immeasurable. In the Bodhisattva Pitaka, it says: 'Through hearing, one attains Nirvana.' Also, in the Jataka tales, it says: 'Whoever, upon hearing, has their mind delighted, becomes well pleased and devoted to the teachings, wisdom arises and becomes free from delusion.' Also, in the Sutra Requested by Prince Moon, it says: 'Hearing is the lamp that dispels the darkness of delusion, it is the supreme treasure that thieves and others cannot take away, it is the weapon that destroys the enemy of universal ignorance, it is the supreme friend who shows the methods and instructions, it is the unchanging friend even when impoverished, it is the medicine without harm for the disease of sorrow, it is the supreme army that destroys the forces of great misdeeds, it is also the supreme treasure of fame and glory, meeting with virtuous people is the supreme birth. In the assembly, it delights the wise, and is like the rays of the sun to opposing factions.' Also, in the Chapter on Hearing, it says: 'Just as a house is well covered, entering into the darkness within, even though objects are present, one does not see them as if one had eyes. Similarly, here, a person of noble birth, even if endowed with intelligence, will not know the nature of sin and virtue until they have heard it. Just as with eyes and a lamp, one sees objects, similarly, through hearing, one fully understands the nature of virtue and sin.' Also, in the Sutra Requested by Sredmed's Son, it says: 'Son of noble family, if one possesses hearing, wisdom will arise. If one possesses wisdom, afflictions will be completely pacified. Without afflictions, the demons will not find an opportunity.' It also says: 'Hearing is the glory of stainlessness, hearing causes one to turn away from sin.' As it says in the Ratnakuta Sutra: 'Without hearing, one cannot know the nature of good and evil, after hearing, one fully understands all dharmas, after hearing, one does not persist in sin, after hearing, one abandons sin, after hearing, one attains Nirvana, after hearing, wisdom increases, with wisdom one practices all meanings, seeing the meaning, one attains happiness, attaining that, one tames the mind, and in this life, one attains Nirvana.' These are the general benefits of listening to the Dharma, and especially the teachings of Orgyen Rinpoche...
