Named 'Vidyadhara,' and in the Sutra Requested by Anavatapta: 'For all the white dharmas of faith, one should go forth and generate them first. Desiring to completely eliminate suffering, and also desiring to go to the end of happiness, one should possess the root of faith and stabilize the mind in enlightenment.' And in the first chapter of the Arrangement of the Magical Net: 'Loving virtue and meditation, always respecting the lama, and constantly making offerings to the deities, one who possesses these qualities is a disciple.' And in the Ratnakuta Sutra: 'Faith is the best treasure, wealth, and foot; like a hand, it is the root of accumulating virtue. The power of faith cannot be stolen by others, and it is the foundation for eliminating afflictions.' And in the Sutra of the Jewel Hand: 'Faith is generated like a preceding mother; it accumulates and increases all qualities, eliminates needs, and liberates from all rivers. Faith is a symbol representing the city of happiness. Faith is without impurity and tames the mind; it abandons pride and is the root of respect. Faith is the best treasure, wealth, and foot; like a hand, it is the root of accumulating virtue.' As it is said, if one has firm faith, then one is suitable as a vessel for teaching this Dharma. Even if it is difficult to possess all the qualities of a disciple, this Dharma should not be taught to those without faith, without respect, and with wrong views, nor should they listen to it. Because this is the pinnacle of the nine vehicles, the Great Perfection, which is even more secret than the secret mantra, an extremely profound and sacred Dharma, like a jewel on the head of a poisonous snake. Orgyen Rinpoche said: 'My treasure Dharma is extremely sacred, like a jewel on the head of a poisonous snake.' Therefore, it is very important for you to generate faith in order to become a suitable vessel. What is that faith like? In the Precious Garland, it says: 'Desire, hatred, fear, and ignorance, whatever does not transgress the Dharma, that is called a faithful person, undoubtedly the best vessel.' And in the Collection of Specially Expressed Verses: 'Desiring to see the noble ones, and delighting in hearing the sacred Dharma, completely abandoning the stain of miserliness, that is called a faithful person.' As it is said, although there are many aspects of faith, wanting to see the noble ones or the lama, and wanting to hear profound Dharma from them, and having wealth but not being bound by miserliness, possessing these three is called a faithful person.

Thus, when a qualified lama and a worthy disciple are complete, how should one rely on the lama? From the "Noble Collection Sutra": "Those good disciples who are respectful to the lama should always rely on the wise lamas. Why? Because the qualities of the wise arise from that. Just as a group of sick people rely on a doctor to be healed, one should rely on a virtuous friend without distraction. The Buddhas and all the Dharma rely on virtuous friends," thus spoke the Victorious One who possesses the best of all qualities. And from the "Ornament Sutra": "One should rely on a virtuous friend through gain, respect, service, and the door of practice."

Examining the characteristics of special places: First, the so-called empty place increases virtue; the mountaintop clarifies awareness; the cemetery generates renunciation; extreme solitude increases experience; clear and high places clarify the wisdom of Dharmadhatu. Going to these special places has two purposes: temporary and ultimate. The temporary purpose is to naturally increase virtue; the ultimate purpose is to quickly stabilize the wisdom of Dharmadhatu. Thus it is said. Or, as stated by Ra lung, places where great accomplished masters have set foot, generally speaking, solitary places that are pleasant and delightful, clear places with complete favorable conditions, places free from disturbance by distractions and uncivilized people. Although there are many extensive explanations, any solitary place free from disturbance by humans and non-humans is sufficient. The characteristics of time are: The time to begin the preliminary practices of Dharma should be a day with auspicious dates, planets, and stars; as for the main practice of introduction, Guru Rinpoche said that in the seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and small winter, when there is no fog, dust, or hail, and the sky is extremely clear, the wisdom of Dharmadhatu will be clear. In particular, the time for introduction is especially clear during the Gemini season. Therefore, special times have two qualities: temporarily, they facilitate quick introduction; ultimately, they greatly increase experience. Thus it is said. The benefits of explaining the characteristics of time in this way are: The sutra says: For whose benefit, my Dharma, properly taught, becomes an offering; with flowers, incense, and lamps, offering to the perfectly enlightened ones. Thus it is said, therefore teaching the Dharma is making the supreme offering to all Buddhas. The Maitreya Lion's Roar Sutra says: Rather than filling countless worlds with gold like the sands of the Ganges and giving it away, reciting a single verse in an age of evil, its benefits are immeasurable. Thus it is said, therefore teaching the Dharma is superior to material giving. Furthermore, the same sutra says: Rather than filling countless Buddha fields with the seven precious jewels and offering them to the Buddhas with joyful minds, giving a single verse to one sentient being, giving the verse with great compassion is a vast offering of jewels.
