From hand gestures and so on, one will fully and directly see perfection. When it becomes the object of focus, one should practice diligently day and night without distraction. If the mind becomes dull or agitated, if there is doubt, one should rejoice with the desire for the qualities of the Buddha, and strive diligently in that. By this, it will be accomplished. So it is said. Furthermore, if the mind is unclear and becomes dull and drowsy, then fix the mind on the crown of the head; if the mind is too scattered and agitated and cannot stay in place, then fix the mind on the navel of the body, or the soles of the feet and the edge of the seat; if there is no dullness or agitation, then fix the mind on the auspicious conch shell at the heart. Then fix the mind on the Nirmanakaya. Then again, it is fine to place a pebble or a piece of wood in front, or not to place it; visualize the Bhagavan Vajrasattva, with a white body, holding a vajra and a bell, about four fingers high, adorned with silk and jewels, seated in the posture of a bodhisattva, and fix the mind on that, and revolve the mind around that as much as possible. Furthermore, the meaning of the nine ways of settling the mind that the Bhagavan spoke of in the sutras is explained for easy understanding: settling means fixing the mind on a single point on the body or a piece of wood, etc. Continuously settling means continuously maintaining that and abiding for a long time. Definitely settling means that if a thought arises, it is immediately grasped by mindfulness and placed in equanimity. Settling closely means that the mind placed in equanimity is also mixed with the previous place of abiding and placed in equanimity. Taming means clearly remembering the qualities of the Dharma of that abiding mind, generating joy and happiness, and abiding in that state. Pacifying means recognizing that whatever arises is the cause of scattering, and also abandoning attachment to that and abiding. Closely pacifying means that whatever is the cause of scattering, such as greed, or whatever is the result of scattering, such as unpleasant feelings, all recognize their own nature and are self-liberated. Making it a single stream means that by the power of meditating in this way, the mind spontaneously enters the object of focus and abides without relying on intense effort. Equanimity means that in the end there is no equanimity and no scattering of non-abiding. Those

These are the nine methods of abiding the mind. This is to hold the mind outwards by relying on the Nirmanakaya and Sambhogakaya. Then, the method of holding the mind inwards is: In the center of one's heart, visualize the Dharmakaya Vajradhara, with a blue body, a complete form, holding a vajra and bell crossed at the heart. Seated in the vajra posture on a lotus and moon cushion, adorned with silk and jewels, meditate on this without distraction and abide the mind as much as possible. Furthermore, 'zhi' (calm abiding) means that the mind calms down from the various thoughts and distractions, and the mind remains steadily in a focused state, which is calm abiding. Then, holding the mind on the signless calm abiding Samantabhadra is: Samantabhadra is emptiness without form, color, or substance. Do not meditate or think about anything in the mind. Do not cut off the past, do not welcome the future, and do not affirm or negate the present awareness, but simply relax and let go. As stated in the Sutra of Good Signs: 'Do not follow after the past, do not hope for the future.' Also, as stated in the Sutra of the Irreversible Wheel: 'The past mind cannot be found, and the future is also the same. Obtain equality in what arises in the present.' Also, as stated in the Samdhinirmocana Sutra: 'Bhagavan, what is the object of calm abiding?' The Buddha replied: 'One, the image of non-conceptualization.' Also asked: 'In what way is one-pointed calm abiding meditated?' Replied: 'By continuously attending to the mind without interruption, without sinking or excitement, without interruption of samadhi, the mind without fault is attending to it.' Also, as stated in the Condensed Sutra: 'Bodhisattvas do not focus on the beginning or the end, nor do they focus on the present, the three times are pure. Those who do not cling to the compounded, that is the supreme practice of prajnaparamita.' Also, as stated in the Root Tantra of the Kalachakra: 'Individual gathering is the great mudra, the nature of empty space.' Also, as stated by Pandit Dharmakirti: 'By eliminating thoughts and memories, clarity itself appears.' Also, as stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: 'Just as muddy water becomes clear, it is not born from it, nor is it different. It is free from impurities and naturally pure, likewise, the mind itself is the same.' Also, as stated in the King of Samadhi Sutra: 'Without conceptualization and'
