Thus, join the palms together. In the state of body and mind, one should repeatedly examine. In short, that is the characteristic of guarding mindfulness. Thus it is said. So, how does one meditate on stillness? There are two types of stillness: stillness with signs and stillness without signs. For both of these, the bodily posture is very important. In the Lotus Net Tantra, it says: On a very soft cushion, abide in the vajra posture. Keep the body straight, and lower the eyes to the tip of the nose. Think slowly, harmonize the breath, and the tip of the tongue should not touch the palate. Slightly contract the navel, and keep the mind in a state of mindfulness. Also, in the Vajra Garland, it says: The practitioner sits on a comfortable cushion, the two eyes should be fixed on the tip of the nose, and the nose should be kept within the range of sight. The shoulders should be level, and the tongue should touch the palate. The teeth and lips should be relaxed. Release the breath, and exhale and inhale effortlessly, little by little, as it is. The bodhisattva's posture is well-established. The meaning of what is said is that by arranging the interdependent body, the key to realization arises in the mind is: sitting in the vajra posture or the bodhisattva posture allows the downward-moving air to enter the central channel, pacifying jealousy and not being disturbed by obstacles. Placing the hands in the meditation mudra, four fingers below the navel, allows the water element to enter the central channel, pacifying hatred. Straightening the spine like an arrow and stretching the arms like the wings of a garuda allows the earth element to enter the central channel, pacifying ignorance. Slightly bending the neck, bringing the chin closer to the chest, allows the fire element to enter the central channel, pacifying attachment. Opening and closing the eyes moderately, looking at the tip of the nose four fingers below, and touching the tongue to the palate allows the air of the air element to enter the central channel, pacifying pride. Awareness is clear. Thus, if the seven-point posture of the body is not mistaken, the breath enters the central channel, and realization naturally arises. If the body posture is tilted to the right, the experience of clarity diminishes first, then hatred arises, and one is harmed by kings, etc. If the body posture is tilted to the left, the experience of bliss diminishes first, then attachment arises, and one is harmed by female spirits. If the body posture is bent forward, the experience of non-thought arises first, then ignorance arises, and one is harmed by earth lords. The mind is unhappy, and heart wind enters. If the body posture is tilted backward, the experience of emptiness arises first, then pride arises, and there is great conceptual proliferation and agitation, the body becomes bluish and emaciated, and essence is discharged, etc.

When the breath rises, the key points of the body should not be mistaken. Then, practice Samatha-vipassana with signs. In the Samadhiraja Sutra, it is said that there are immeasurable benefits to visualizing the Bhagavan Shakyamuni Buddha in front. The sutra says that one should focus on each of his thirty-two major marks and eighty minor marks separately. The sutra also says: 'The body is like the color of gold, the protector of the world, beautiful at all times. Whoever focuses their mind on this, that Bodhisattva attains Samadhi.' The meaning of these is stated in the Vajra verses: 'Even by placing a statue or a piece of wood or stone in front, generate the deity and make the consciousness revolve around it. Do whatever you can to let your own mind abide in that state.' The commentary on this was spoken by the Great Compassionate One himself: 'Even by placing any of the following: a Shakyamuni Buddha statue, a golden statue, a lotus, a wooden stick, or a pebble, generate any deity such as Shakyamuni Buddha, Vajrasattva, Samantabhadra, or Vajradhara, and make the consciousness revolve around it. Then, do whatever you can to let your own mind abide in that state.' The meaning of what was said is: Place a statue in front of you, or in a place visible to the crowd. If there is none, place a pebble, a wooden stick, or a flower. At the very least, place a pebble in front of you. Now, there are four ways to focus the mind: focusing on the Nirmanakaya, focusing on the Sambhogakaya, focusing on the Dharmakaya, and focusing on the objectless. Now, for this statue, pebble, lotus, or piece of wood, visualize it as a small form of the Bhagavan Nirmanakaya Shakyamuni Buddha, about four fingers high. Focus on it with one-pointedness, and keep the mind unscattered for a moment. Now, focus your mind for a moment on the urna hair between the eyebrows of that Buddha. Now, focus your mind for a moment on the svastika at the heart of the Buddha. Now, focus your mind on the vajra in front of the Buddha. Now, focus your mind on the entire body of the Buddha. Its meaning is that when entering into yogic meditation, visualize the body of the Buddha as golden as pure gold, adorned with marks and signs, and accompanied by rays of light. Generate desire for this, abandon desire and mental obstacles, straighten the body, and place such a statue, whether sculpted or painted, in front of you, and constantly remember it, whether it is the Buddha himself or another.
