Knowing that the Three Jewels are established in one's own mind is the meaning of seeking refuge. Furthermore, the mind is the nature of the Three Jewels, free from one and many, not abiding in any extreme, realizing the self-liberation of duality is the true and unsurpassed refuge. Thus it is said. Therefore, we do not know when we will die, and where we will go after death is determined by karma. Therefore, due to the fear of the bardo and the lower realms, one should avoid sin like poison. Wherever one is born in the six realms, it is the nature of suffering. The one who can save from that is the Lama and the Three Jewels, so the visualization and practice of taking refuge in them is the seed of the first Dharma session. Therefore, meditate on this visualization with one-pointedness. If it is not clear, take about three days of leisure time from Wick (Victoria) to practice. The first Dharma session. There is the letter རྡ་. Next, the second Dharma session is: In the scripture it says, "This pure and precious human body, if not this time, there is no time to obtain it." Explaining this meaning: In the "Compassionate White Lotus Sutra" it says, "It is difficult to be born as a human, it is difficult to have leisure and endowments, it is difficult for a Buddha to appear in the world, it is difficult to desire virtuous Dharma, it is difficult to have true aspirations." Also, in the "Holy Tree Array Sutra" it says, "It is difficult to be free from the eight unfavorable conditions, it is difficult to be born as a human, it is difficult to have leisure and endowments, it is difficult for a Buddha to appear, it is difficult to have complete faculties, it is difficult to hear the Buddha's Dharma, it is difficult to associate with holy beings, it is difficult to have true virtuous friends, it is difficult to practice the true teachings, it is difficult to live truthfully, it is difficult to diligently engage in Dharma-compatible activities in the human world." Also, in the "Essence of the Sun Sutra" it says, "It is difficult to find the Teacher's teachings, it is difficult to find such leisure, it is extremely difficult to do good, therefore you should be respectful and generate the desire for enlightenment." Also, in the "Secret Inconceivable Sutra" it says, "It is difficult for a Buddha to appear in a hundred kalpas, it is extremely difficult to be born as a human, what kind of friends have faith and listen to the Dharma, such

"Even searching a hundred times, it is difficult to find." Furthermore, the *Ratnakuta Sutra, Secret Inconceivable Sutra* states: "The appearance of a Buddha is extremely rare. Parents abiding in the Dharma, leisure and fortune, Dharma-friendly companions, harmonious dwelling, and profound faith in the teachings are all rare. Having found these, the wise never abandon the Dharma until enlightenment is attained." The sutra says: "Hell beings, hungry ghosts, animals, barbarians, long-lived gods, wrong views, the age without a Buddha, and the mute – these are the eight unfree states." Abandoning these are the eight freedoms; and human birth, born in the central lands, complete faculties, not having committed the five heinous crimes, faith in the Dharma, the appearance of a Buddha and the teaching of the Dharma, the abiding of the teachings and following them, and cherishing others with love. These are the five fortunes of oneself and others, totaling eighteen perfections. This pure and precious human body is difficult to obtain. Having obtained such a body, one must strive to accumulate merit for the ultimate benefit of future lives. Therefore, regarding the means of extracting the essence from this body, if one is ordained, it is crucial to protect the vows and commitments one has taken. Padmasambhava, the vidyadhara of speech, Nagarjuna, said: "Discipline is like the earth, the basis for wealth and people, the foundation and support for all qualities, able to firmly sustain everything." Therefore, discipline is the foundation of the Dharma. Among these, the vows of taking refuge in the Three Jewels are common to both householders and monastics. Therefore, it is crucial to first protect the precepts of refuge. Having taken refuge in the Buddha, do not prostrate to non-Buddhist deities; having taken refuge in the Dharma, do not harbor strong intentions of harming sentient beings; having taken refuge in the Sangha, do not rely on non-Buddhist friends. These three are the special precepts. Having taken refuge in the Buddha, respect even a fragment of a Buddha image; having taken refuge in the Dharma, respect even a single letter; having taken refuge in the Sangha, respect even a yellow patch on a robe. These three are the corresponding precepts. Diligently taking refuge morning and evening, offering the first portion of food and drink to the Three Jewels, and not seeking refuge in anything other than the Three Jewels, no matter what illness or suffering arises – these three are the common precepts. If these nine precepts are not kept, one cannot be counted as a Buddhist.
