This is also the reality. Each of these has its own meaning in specific situations. Because the word combination is large, even children can understand the words, but this practice is difficult even for old meditators. Therefore, do not think about anything in your mind, do not make any modifications, let it be as it is. Just like not remembering anything, staying blankly, staying without distraction is also a view. Even if you stay in that state for a long time, stay. Do not be like an unconscious king and sleep, see how long such a state can arise and be maintained. Even if you cannot maintain it at all, because it is a way of appearing, there is no need for regret and suffering. In general, practicing calm abiding is the perfection of meditation among the six perfections. In the Bodhisattva Grounds it says: The meditation of the Bodhisattvas is to be free from all conceptual thoughts, to generate extreme suppleness of body and mind, to reach the most supreme peace, to be free from pride, to have no taste (of anything), to be free from all signs, know that this is how they abide in bliss in this life. Therefore, abiding in a state where conceptual thoughts such as the presence or absence of mind, abiding or not abiding, do not move, body, speech, and mind have no unwholesome thoughts, there is no arrogance of thinking "this is practice," calm abiding fills the body and mind with happiness, and there is no attachment or clinging to it, not clinging to any object of focus, the mind naturally abiding is good calm abiding. Padmasambhava said: There is not a single thing to be cultivated, not wanting to be distracted for even a moment, this is the practice of Mahamudra. As it is said, do not think about anything, abide without distraction. If you tighten too much, the mind will not want to abide, so relax the three doors of body, speech, and mind. The great accomplished SaraHa said: This mind nature bound by afflictions, if relaxed, will be liberated, without a doubt. Just like a Brahmin spinning thread, a yogi relaxing awareness will be happy. It also says: If bound, it will begin to pull in all directions; if relaxed, it will abide unshakably like a camel freed from its rope. Also, the incarnation of Jetsun Nyakchen Zana, the great accomplished Prazhabhadra said: Do not recall the past, do not think about the future, do not think about the present, do not cultivate with conceptual thought, do not examine with conceptual thought, the mind is completely liberated.

Om! The great accomplished Śavaripa said: Do not take non-meditation (unfabricated state) to heart, For the ordinary awareness, the innate nature, Do not defile it with artificial fixations. For the naturally pure mind, no fabrication is needed. Do not grasp, do not abandon, leave it in its natural state. As it is said, leave the mind unfabricated, abiding in its own nature. There will be two kinds of states: without fault and with fault. The state with fault is: Dull, blank, and hazy, appearing as a dim state, without clear awareness. If it is always like that, or sometimes appears like that, it is the fluctuation of the mind's nature. The mind does not scatter outward, clear and bright like a crystal ball, or like a lamp flame unmoved by the wind, abiding in one-pointedness, that is calm abiding (shamatha). Although there are no outward scattering thoughts, But within itself, there are subtle discriminating thoughts: "Clear and bright, abiding, not scattering, this is calm abiding." Like this, with a little bit of conceptualization, it is called the first dhyana. Even subtle conceptualization does not occur, Abiding in that state, there is a root-like clinging of joy in the mind, that is the second dhyana. The mind abides in that state, although there is no clinging to joy, But the body feels comfortable and light, wanting to abide there, the mind feels immeasurable happiness, not interested in external sense pleasures, abiding in a state of bliss, that is the third dhyana. The mind abides in that state, there is neither the feeling of joy nor comfort, Nor is there the feeling of unhappiness or discomfort, the mind abides in a neutral state, that is the fourth dhyana. These four dhyanas arise from abandoning distractions, maintaining pure morality, and meditating with one-pointedness, not arising casually. This is the worldly path, the cause for being born as gods in the form realm. It is the common path with outsiders. It is the main practice of the ascetic practitioners of the outsiders. For inner Buddhists, it is only the basis of meditation, not the actual practice. The Vidyadhara Nāgārjuna said: "For sensual pleasures, happiness, and suffering, The four dhyanas that completely abandon, One can attain equal fortune with Brahma, the Clear Light gods, the Expanding Virtue gods, And the Great Fruit gods." Thus it is said. Furthermore, the mind abides within the body, if it scatters outward, it must be stopped. Therefore, there arises a clinging to prevent scattering, that is the calm of the Hearers' vehicle, similar to cessation.
