Even a scholar can be mistaken; if one realizes this, even a cowherd can be liberated. Just like the sugarcane tasted in one's own mouth, there's no need for others to explain its taste. Even if one can't explain it, it's manifestly established. As it is said, here, one should practice the Kusali's settling meditation. Here, first, the instructions on shamatha (calm abiding) are given, so that vipassanā (insight) is gradually realized. By seeking the view through meditation, realization is shown. Some, although having received instructions beforehand and having some realization of vipassanā, if the experience of shamatha is not born, their skill and qualities will not be perfected, so here it will also become an enhancement. As it is said in the Great Nirvana Sutra: 'One who possesses shamatha is liberated by vipassanā, and one who possesses vipassanā is liberated by shamatha.' Therefore, the cause for the arising of shamatha is the solitude of body, speech, and mind. As it is said in the Bodhicaryāvatāra: 'From the solitude of body and mind, no conceptual thoughts arise.' As it is said. Then, in a solitary place, to sit comfortably, one must adjust the posture of the body. As it is said in the King of Tantras, 'Without Defilement': 'Then, having assumed the lotus posture, looking at the tip of the nose, through the yoga of one's own nature, one should abide by seeing that. Place the two hands at the heart's location, the arms straight, and having placed them equally with effort, in the nature of non-conceptuality, when the mind is completely flowing, that is the lord of all Buddhas gathered, at that time, one will be born there.' As it is said. Also, as it is said in the Four Seats: 'In a pleasing place, dwelling on a solitary seat, having assumed the posture of a bodhisattva, place the two hands in the secret place, the eyes looking at the tip of the nose, hold the breath at the root of the navel, the front is completely open.' As it is said. Also, as it is said in the Ornamented Array: 'Having arranged the seat in the lotus position, sitting in the lotus posture and placing them equally, always practice yoga, being completely separated from the pleasure of desire, turning back from all the attachments of the senses to their objects, like hooking an elephant with an iron hook, one should equally settle the mind.' As it is said. Padma Sambhava, the great vidyadhara of speech, Nagarjuna, said: 'The body is not upright, nor is it bent over. Breathing is neither exhaling nor inhaling. Speaking is neither speaking nor not speaking. The eyes are neither closed nor open.' As it is said, like the

There are seven postures: Legs in vajra posture or any comfortable posture, right leg on top, with the key of slightly restraining the lower winds, the downward-clearing wind is controlled; bindu is stable and the body color is comfortable; the spine is straightened like a golden arrow, the waist is slightly stretched, and the abdomen is slightly inflated; tighten the waist, and lean the upper body slightly back to control the life-sustaining wind and the fire-equalizing wind; it has the key to generating heat and balancing wisdom and the elements; hands in meditative equipoise, right hand on top of the left, palms slightly curved; thumbs touching; or pressing the pulse of the index finger with both thumbs; arms stretched like Garuda's wings, wearing a four-petaled hat, toes curled; these postures control the pervasive wind, open the mouth of the central channel, the bindu is comfortable, and the body is filled with comfort; the neck is slightly bent, the lips are not closed, and there is a slight gap between the teeth; the eyes look at the sky in front of the tip of the nose, these postures control the upward-moving wind, so that the wind returns to its own place; all qualities arise naturally, so aging and sickness and other physical disabilities are avoided, this key to the body is extremely important. In this calm abiding, there are two types of calm abiding: with signs and without signs; of those with signs, holding the mind on impure pieces of wood and stones is not as superior as holding the mind on pure Buddha images; however, this is already included in the aforementioned generation stage practice, so there is no need to explain it separately here; here, we practice calm abiding without signs; as it says in the Mother of the Buddhas: Great Bodhisattvas should be skilled in knowing the meditation of non-thinking. And as it says in the Vajra Pinnacle Tantra: Secret Lord, the ultimate truth is that the object of selflessness, unconquerable, all phenomena are emptiness, without increase or decrease, pure, it is equal to space, its nature is pure and stainless, without letters, without words, separated from body, speech, and mind, neither existent nor non-existent, neither acting nor non-acting, neither far nor near, neither empty nor non-empty, not even the middle way, it is beyond the realm of thought, this is the ultimate truth. And as it says in the Gongpa Lungten Tantra: The wisdom of mere self-awareness is like the sky.
