Those who wish to learn should learn to practice its meaning. Even if one knows many terms, it is not the same as understanding the meaning of the words. Thus it is said. In the Sutra of Supreme Samadhi, the Blessed One taught: Furthermore, if someone could fill the three thousand great thousand worlds with all the merits mentioned above, and could obtain the twelve divisions of scripture and fifteen treatises, and could fluently recite and explain them, and also practice ethics, patience, and love, and also give alms, become the best of those who have heard much, and also teach the meaning of emptiness and peace, and obtain the five clairvoyances. Even if they have done such beneficial and happy things, they cannot even enter into samadhi for just one day or one night. Why is that? Because those who have heard much have a great mind of pride, like a mountain or an ocean. Those who have such a great mind of pride will experience suffering in the lower realms for countless eons. Thus it is said. In the Sutra of Supreme Samadhi, it says: Whoever has meditative samadhi will be able to eliminate the heavy sins and faults of the cycle of birth and death. Meditative samadhi is like the ocean. If I were to speak of the merits and benefits of meditation and samadhi, there would be no end to it. Even in an eon, it would not be exhausted. And so on, it is widely spoken. So, what is this samadhi that has such great benefits? It is my entering. To this, the so-called analytical meditation of the panditas is to cut off the added fabrications from the outside. Having extensively studied and contemplated the Buddha's teachings, sutras, and tantras, and having established the view through scriptural and logical reasoning, now one needs to meditate, otherwise, if the target is not right, there is a danger of getting lost, etc., although it is said so. However, the skillful one's settling meditation is to cut off elaboration from within. Even if one studies and contemplates in that way, it is like measuring the sky with a measuring tool, and it is impossible to reach the end. Because life has no leisure, by practicing according to the guru's words, quiescence, insight, and union will arise in sequence, just as when the fire in the stove is extinguished, the smoke from the window will naturally stop. Orgyen Rinpoche said: Without realizing this
