Therefore, (the Guru) is even closer than all the Buddhas. As it is said in the Tantra of the Vajra Tent of the Dakinis: 'Why is it called Vajradhara? It is because he holds the form of the Guru. With the aim of benefiting sentient beings, he abides in the form of an ordinary person.' Also, as it is said in the Root Tantra of Manjushri: 'The Buddhas of the past, future, and present will truly appear in this world in human form.' Also, as it is said in the Tantra of Non-Dual Victory: 'The teacher of gods and humans, the all-knowing one with two feet, will abide in the form of the future Guru. This is his conduct.' Also, as it is said in the Gongdu: 'Before there was a Guru, there was not even the name of becoming a Buddha. Even Buddhas of hundreds of thousands of kalpas arise relying on the Gurus.' Thus it is said. Therefore, it is necessary to practice such Guru Yoga. As it is said in the Ati Adornment Tantra: 'That kind Guru, whether one meditates on him at the crown of the head or in the center of the heart, or on the tips of the limbs, that person will also hold the qualities of a thousand Buddhas.' By meditating on him, experience and realization arise. As it is said in the Tantra of the Dakini's Universal Conduct: 'By whose kindness great bliss arises, in an instant it appears, the form of the precious Guru, Vajradhara, I prostrate at his lotus feet.' Thus it is said. If one does not practice Guru Yoga, experience and realization do not arise. As it is said in the Two Examinations: 'Without a boat to hold, one cannot cross to the other shore. Even if all qualities are perfectly complete, without a Guru, one cannot be liberated from samsara.' Thus it is said. Compared to meditating on other deities and meditating on the channels and winds, meditating on the Guru is even more excellent. As it is said in the Tantra of the Lamp of Secret Wisdom: 'A deity with marks and signs, even if one meditates for hundreds of millions of kalpas, remembering the Guru is of great merit.' Also, as it is said in the Tantra of the Ocean of Vow Adornment: 'The completion stage for hundreds of millions of kalpas, abandoning busyness and distraction, even if one diligently meditates, the Guru appearing in the center of one's own mind, even for a moment, is superior to twenty million.' Thus it is said. For the arising of experience and realization and the increase of the qualities of the grounds and paths, this Guru Yoga is also essential. As it is said in the Hevajra Tantra: 'The co-emergent that cannot be spoken by others, cannot be found anywhere, is known by the Guru's skillful means and by my merit.'

Thus it is said. In the Tantra of Manifestation of Wisdom, it says: The stages of ground and path should be measured by devotion to the Guru. If one does not separate from the Guru's appearance, one will remain inseparable from all the Buddhas. Thus it is said. The best offering to such a Guru is to realize and practice the Dharma that the Guru has bestowed, and to spread it to others and uphold the teachings. The intermediate offering is the offering of body and speech, which means that one should tirelessly accomplish whatever tasks the Guru needs, and thereby contemplate the joy of purifying one's obscurations and accumulating merit, without considering merit or kindness, and proclaiming the Guru's qualities and praises in all directions. The lowest offering is the offering of material possessions, which means offering whatever one can afford without stinginess, and not contemplating the merit of accumulating merit thereby. Even if one does not have actual possessions, one should mentally offer one's body, possessions, and virtuous roots, and recite the words of the mandala. All the activities of protection and repulsion that one performs should be primarily focused on the Guru's well-being. By doing so, one will obtain immeasurable merit, and blessings will arise naturally, which is the key to dependent origination. In the Sutra of the Origin of Discipline, it says: Abandon all offerings and begin to offer to the Guru. By pleasing him, one will attain omniscience and the supreme state. Thus it is said. In the Tantra of the Dakini Subduer, it says: Giving to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges for as many kalpas as there are sands in the Ganges is not as meritorious as anointing one pore of hair of the Vajra Master with sesame oil. Thus it is said. In the Glorious Sambhuti, it says: Because the merit of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions is not as great as the merit of one pore of hair of the Master. That blessing is especially excellent. Thus it is said. In the Tantra of the Arrangement of the Wheel, it says: Great wisdom, listen all you Buddhas! Some people perform the actions of the Vajra Master, and prostrate and circumambulate the Master, scatter flowers, offer their own domain, city, and enjoyments, and abandon those who are disrespectful. These are protected and saved by those who keep their vows, and they bestow accomplishments. All the Tathagatas prophesy, and all the demons cannot harm them.
