After explaining in detail, he said that it was not necessary in any way, so he renounced the kingdom and entered the Dharma. Similarly, the essence of mind, the Tathagatagarbha, is also not recognized by oneself, wandering in samsara and experiencing suffering for a long time. Even when wandering in samsara, the nature of the Tathagatagarbha does not become bad. For example, pure gold becomes dirty when used as a dog's container and a stick for sweeping unclean things, and it becomes a beautiful ornament when made into earrings and bracelets, etc. If it is dismantled and a Buddha statue is built and consecrated, it becomes an object of worship and offering for everyone. Although three situations of good and bad occur, the essence of gold does not change. Similarly, whether wandering in samsara, attaining the bhumis and paths, or finally becoming a Buddha, the essence of mind does not change. For example, ordinary stones do not produce silver even when burned. Similarly, if the sentient beings' continuum does not have the Tathagatagarbha, even if they practice Dharma, they will not achieve Buddhahood. Just as silver is contained in silver ore, and when it is melted, it first becomes crude silver, then silver ingots, and finally pure silver, sentient beings' continuum has the Tathagatagarbha. Therefore, if one recognizes this and practices it, one will first generate realization, then gradually traverse the bhumis and paths, and finally become a Buddha. If one recognizes the nature of mind, then it is enough to protect the nature of whatever arises. It is like all the different shapes of brown sugar, but the taste is the same sweet. (22) Homage to the Great Compassionate One! The profound instruction of the Great Compassionate One, the key point of receiving this instruction, is that it is very important to recognize the nature of mind. This is the supreme method of purifying obscurations. As it is said in the Sutra of the King of Dharma: If one recognizes that mind is one and not two, it is like dust accumulating on a mirror for a thousand years, and the dust disappears when wiped with a cloth. It is the same! Sins accumulated for countless kalpas are purified in an instant. As it is said in the Tathagatagarbha Sutra: The Tathagatagarbha, the clear light of mind, is defiled by the stains of afflictions, and it dwells in the bodies of all sentient beings in samsara, but it is not recognized. If one relies on a virtuous friend and recognizes this, one can liberate oneself from samsara, and others as well.

One is liberated. Thus it is said. From the Sutra of Pure Intention: The yogi who knows the nature of mind, no matter how he acts, abides in meditation, abides in the meaning of the primordial. This is the practice of samadhi. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by Brahma: Do not think that memory is conceptual thought, therefore feeling arises. Wisdom without thought, do not abandon it, let it be clear. Other than that, there is no gain. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by Ngadpa Giryin: If you are not distracted, then you should know that this is the intention of the nature of reality. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by Loving-Kindness: Seeing appearances nakedly, do not conceptualize about it. Just that is the supreme of meditation. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by Dewa Lodrö: Not thinking about anything is said to be great meditation. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by the Brahmin: The so-called all phenomena are naturally luminous, refers to the primordial awareness that is free from sinking and agitation. Why is that? Because awareness is without birth or death, it is primordial. Thus it is said. From the Sutra of Completely Holding the Root of Virtue: One's own wisdom does not conceptualize about anything, and the awareness is clear, that is the recognition of the Dharmakaya. Thus it is said. From within the Sutra of Repaying Kindness: Do not examine the object-mind outwardly, and do not think inwardly with the mind, this is the supreme of meditation. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by King Kausala: The so-called view is not examining one's own mind, experiencing that meaning is supreme. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by King Dewa: Knowing how to look at mind with mind is the supreme of yogis. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by King Dewa Zhujin: Not gathering one's own mind, but leaving it in its own state, this is the supreme of meditation. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by Brahma: Mind is placed equally with mind, mind does not focus on mind. Thus it is said. The Wisdom Dakini said: When Tilopa looked at mind with mind, the one who looks is also one's own mind, and what is looked at is also one's own mind. When looking at mind in that way, like the sky that cannot be seen, both the one who looks and what is looked at are purified, when that clear and empty clarity is realized, the spontaneously accomplished Buddha is also that.
