Then, the translator Ma Sang said he would not come. I asked, "Then what do you intend to do yourself?" He said, "Whatever you say, wherever you stay, whoever you associate with, whatever conduct you engage in, base it on the Vinaya. Because it is not all sentient beings, you must meditate there. Purify appearances like a mother. Because the deity is unborn, you must meditate there. If you do not know how to merge, you will not attain the essence." Jowo also said, "Discipline is the basis of all virtues, your own teacher has spoken well. The mind of enlightenment, connected with great compassion, is praised as supreme. The union of generation and completion, not bound by good thoughts and signs, will surely attain Buddhahood. For small and great individuals, this is what should be done, and for intermediate individuals, it is important to encourage impermanent offerings. Abandoning selfishness, spreading the Buddha's teachings is the act of the wise. The person who gathers the essence and practices it is a good person. The cautious one who does not despise the results of actions is regarded as a monk. Knowing everything but being sad alone is the fault of the wise. Not putting it into practice is depraved. Not accepting or rejecting, using wisdom among monks is precious. It is only urged by great compassion." Thus he said. After the great translator Rinchen Zangpo gained certainty, he offered the vow of life and practiced it, and without abandoning his body, he went to the realm of the Dakinis. Jowo also composed the key instructions for practicing the four classes of tantra on a single seat, as well as the ritual text for the Five Seats. To this, the venerable Phagmo Drupa said that the five thousand eight hundred disciples who carried umbrellas were liberated solely through the Five Perfections. Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon said, "Mahamudra is like a lion, without the Five Perfections it is like being without eyes." Thus he said. By guiding the disciples through the method of the Five Perfections, it is said that about eighteen hundred thousand disciples attained clairvoyance and miraculous powers. Therefore, it is said, meditate on the mind of enlightenment and the yidam deity, the guru, Mahamudra, and dedicate the enjoyment of the Dharma. Thus he said. Therefore, within these five points, there is nothing incomplete in the practice of both Sutra and Tantra of the New Tradition. In the system of this instruction, adding the Great Perfection Tögal on top of that completes the practice of the Nine Vehicles. This also needs to be practiced on a single seat or in a single session.

If we summarize the essence of the Mahamudra Aspiration Prayer composed by Lord Phagmo Drupa and the Three Teachings of Jigten Sumgon, it is: If you do not meditate on the deity, obstacles will arise; if the lineage is mixed, even if you nurture it for a lifetime, it will say there is no kindness and leave. If there is no yidam deity, you are an ordinary person. If you do not meditate on the deity, no matter what practice you do, you will not attain Buddhahood in one lifetime; this is the Sutra tradition. It takes three countless eons to attain Buddhahood. Meditating on the deity pacifies the harm of female demons, subdues all those with desire, overpowers appearances, and the wisdom of discernment arises. Desire becomes the key point. Others' retinues gather, and your own lineage does not become mixed. Without Mahamudra, you cannot be liberated from samsara. Even if you are diligent in Dharma and virtuous deeds, you will only attain the happiness of gods and humans; this is the activity of the human and divine vehicle, and you cannot bless others. Meditating on Mahamudra turns ignorance into the key point, pacifies the harm of nagas, subdues the ignorant, liberates from samsara, attains the wisdom of Dharmadhatu, becomes the master of samsara and nirvana, and attains the Dharmakaya and Svabhavikakaya. Therefore, the body visualizing the generation stage of the yidam deity, and the mind meditating on the meaning of the completion stage of emptiness, these two, for beginners, should be meditated on in the upper and lower parts of the session. Having become accustomed to this, meditating on union is the actual basis of the Secret Mantra Vajrayana teachings. As it is said: 'The generation stage and the completion stage, whoever establishes these two stages simultaneously, this is the teaching of the Buddha.' Thus, the actual basis, the generation stage, the completion stage, the clearing of obstacles, and the enhancement of merit, the most supreme of these is Guru Yoga, therefore it is very important. If you do not meditate on it, even if you try, you will not win the Guru's heart, blessings will not arise, realization will not arise, and your own retinue will treat you as an equal without devotion. Meditating on the Guru turns pride into the key point, pacifies the demons of the sons of the gods, subdues the arrogant, holds awareness and receives blessings, the wisdom of equality arises, you are respected by all, and you attain the state of the Guru. Meditating on the mind of enlightenment is like a seed that is important at the beginning for attaining Buddhahood, like water and fertilizer in the middle, and like a rich harvest at the end. If you do not meditate on this, even if you spend your life on the Dharma, you will only be a Hinayana Hearer and Solitary Realizer.
