Rest in that state. Not deviating from that state is called becoming a Buddha. Having said this, he was liberated. Instructions to Ma Rinchen: The nature of mind is nothing at all, it cannot be settled, it cannot be meditated upon, it is un fabricated, naturally arising, just as it is. Rest in the state of spontaneous perfection from the beginning, and meditate openly. From that state, the mind will become free from wavering and agitation, and there is no other result than that. Having said this, he attained accomplishment. Instructions to Nub Sangye Yeshe: The mind of enlightenment appears as emptiness, a state in which appearance and emptiness are inseparable. Rest in the state in which awareness and emptiness are inseparable. Rest without distraction in the state that cannot be thought of. Remaining in that state is called Dharmakaya. Having said this, Sangye Yeshe was liberated. Instructions to Langdro Konchok Jungne: The nature of mind is without substance, primordially pure, empty by nature and cannot be fabricated. Rest in the state without object of meditation and meditator. Only through that will the result of Buddhahood be attained. Having said this, he was liberated. Instructions to Lasum Gyalwa Jangchub: The nature of mind is without arising or ceasing, free from substance and characteristics, empty in nature, clear and unceasing. If you do not stray from that very meaning, it is called Buddha, it is the intention of the Dharmakaya. Having said this, Gyalwa Jangchub was liberated. From the Secret Mantra Lamrim of Orgyen Rinpoche: The three key points of settling the mind are: Do not be distracted in the ordinary state. Do not change thoughts. Without fabricating with the mind. Let awareness rest naturally in its own way. By that, meditation will come naturally, and if you are distracted and changed, meditation will not arise. Second, the nature of the arising of meditation is: By resting in its own way like that. All subtle and gross thoughts subside in their own place. After pacifying, it will come to rest naturally in its own place. That is called Shamatha. When its radiance is uninterrupted, something naked and clear will appear in the absence of objects and self-illumination. That is called Vipassanā. When the two, awareness, are momentarily inseparable, and one nature remains bright, one will also arise. That is called Shamatha-Vipassanā. If it dwells in an object, it is experience; if it dwells in no object, it is understanding; if awareness dwells brightly in its own nature, it is realization. At that time, it is the intention of the Buddhas of the three times. This can only be done through the instructions of the Lama.

It is not. It does not arise from the great wisdom of the student. It is to abide in the true nature of reality. Thus it is said. In the Four-Letter Mahamudra, it says: The body performs the seven dharmas of Vairochana, like a great garuda soaring in the sky, abide in the uncreated primordial state, without effort or action. Like the ocean devoid of waves, abide without movement. Like the sun devoid of clouds, abide possessing all clarity. Like the waves of water, know all arising sensations as mind and abide. Like a young child looking at a temple, abide without interruption of clarity, without clinging. Like a bird flying in the sky, abide without trace. Thus it is said. In the Mahamudra Sudden Liberation, it says: The body performs the seven dharmas of Vairochana, relax the body and mind, without remembering any of the three times of future, present, and past, abide in the uncreated nature of mind. The previous thought has passed, the next thought has not arisen, or the present awareness, this abides in clarity and emptiness, free from elaboration, like the sky. That is the non-mistaken awareness. It is called the luminosity of mind. It is called the innate coemergent bliss. It is called the Dharmakaya Great Bliss. After recognizing that nature, without creation, free from effort, abide suddenly. Observing the mistaken awareness and abiding, whatever arises, whether virtuous, non-virtuous, or neutral, look nakedly with the eye of wisdom and abide. Everything seen is the trace of the pacification of conceptual thoughts, but it is not without mind. The nature of mind is clear, empty, and transparent, originally existing, inseparable from the realm and wisdom. Seeing what nature, one sees the mind. Recognizing that mind is becoming a Buddha. How to see it? From beginningless time, there is no gathering or scattering, pervading all dharmas, transcending the realm of the six senses, seeing that nothing such as color and shape is established. Recognizing that mistaken and non-mistaken are inseparable, whatever conceptual thought arises, look directly with the eye of wisdom. Nothing can be determined. Conceptual thoughts dissolve into emptiness. That dissolving into emptiness also arises from the state of emptiness of mind. Mind abides in the state of emptiness. Mind is pacified in the state of emptiness. From the state of emptiness, the unawakened evil conceptual thoughts are pacified.
