Although it has come to the actual introduction, in order to make sure that the newcomers are still not sure whether they really understand, and that those who understand also generate definite understanding, it is easier to understand if the introduction is given in plain language. Recognizing the nature of mind is the best way to purify obscurations. As it is said in the Sutra of the King of Dharma: If you recognize that the mind is non-dual, it is like dust accumulating on a mirror for thousands of years, and the dust disappears when wiped with a cloth. Similar! Just like a dark room that has been dark for thousands of years, lighting a lamp can dispel it. Just by recognizing the truth that the mind has no self-nature, one can instantly eliminate the sins accumulated over countless kalpas. So it is said. If you can continuously cultivate the nature of mind, you can do without relying on retreats and solitary places. As it is said in the Sutra of the Moon Lamp: If you know the nature of the mind, even if the body is in a busy city, the mind is like living in a temple. Because it is like covering one's own light with one's own dirt. The Buddha of the mind dwells in the temple of the body. So it is said. So, what is the metaphor for recognizing the nature of mind? As it is said in the Sutra of the Essence of the Sun of the Tathagata: For example, a statue of the Tathagata made of jewels, wrapped in a dirty cloth and placed in the arms of a maid, is taken out of the arms of the maid's master, the dirty cloth is discarded, and the jewel statue is used for offerings, and others also use it as a support for accumulating merit. Similarly, the luminous nature of the Tathagatagarbha, defiled by the dirt of afflictions, dwells in the bodies of all sentient beings in samsara without being known. After relying on a virtuous friend like a master, if one recognizes the luminous nature of the Tathagatagarbha, one can also be liberated from samsara, and can also liberate others. So it is said. In the Sutra of Perfect Purity of Thought, Manjushri asked: World Honored One, how does a Bhikshu yogi practice meditation? The Buddha replied: For example, by what method is a fire extinguished, just as the smoke from a window disappears. If you know that mind and awareness are empty, then the appearance of form is empty, the sound heard is empty, and the smell smelled is empty.

I, experience emptiness, the feeling of touching emptiness arises. If the water is not turbid, it is clear; if the sky is not obscured, it is bright; if the mind is not contrived, it is happy. To this, it is said: The yogi who knows the nature of the mind, whatever he does is in a state of meditation, abiding in the original meaning. This is described as the experience of samadhi (Tibetan: ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་). Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by King Unwavering, it is said: When appearance is self-illuminating without clinging, appearance is pure in itself. Do not think of anything else besides that. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by Brahma, it is said: Do not think of memory as being conceptual thought or feeling. Do not abandon the wisdom of non-thought, but abide in clarity. There is no other benefit than that. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by Swan Neck, it is said: If you are not distracted, you should know that it is the intention of the self-illuminating nature of reality. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by Maitreya, it is said: Seeing appearance nakedly, do not conceptualize. That alone is the best of meditation. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by Blissful Wisdom, it is said: Not thinking of anything is described as great meditation. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by the Brahmin, it is said: All phenomena are naturally luminous, which refers to the original awareness that is free from sinking and excitement. Why is that? Because awareness is the original state of being without birth or death. Thus it is said. In the Sutra of Fully Embracing the Roots of Virtue, it is said: One's own wisdom does not conceptualize anything, and awareness is clear, that is the recognition of the Dharmakaya. Thus it is said. From Within the Sutra of Repaying Kindness, it is said: Not examining outwards with the mind of an object, not thinking about the nature of the mind, that is the best of meditation. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by King Granted Speech, it is said: View is not acting on one's own mind, experiencing that meaning is the best. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by Brahmin Brahma, it is said: Knowing view and meditation as one, clarity and non-conceptualization continuously abide, being equal to the mind of the Buddha. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by the Daughter Linen Garment, it is said: If one's own mind abides in its own meaning, without accumulating any accumulations, purifying obscurations, and not taking birth in a place of birth, in this very life one will attain the state of Buddhahood without any doubt. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by King Blissful, it is said: The mind knowing that the mind is observing is the true.
