Wandering from the ground into samsara. Just as the minister recognized the prince and enthroned him, the lama introduces the mind-essence as the Dharmakaya, thereby liberating from the suffering of samsara and attaining the qualities of the Buddha. Furthermore, the exemplary introduction spoken by the great accomplished Orgyenpa is: In the past, in the land of India, there was a captain who obtained a precious jewel from the outer ocean. All his needs and desires arose from the jewel, and he was wealthy, enjoying great prosperity and possessing riches. At some point, that captain died, and his wife and children exhausted all their enjoyments, becoming very miserable and impoverished, wandering as beggars. They met a friend of the captain, and recounted all the past stories. The friend said: It is impossible that you have nothing left. What kind of possessions do you have in the house? They said: There is nothing else, only a smooth pestle inside a rough mortar. Thereupon, the friend led the mother and children to the house and examined it carefully. He found the jewel mixed with dirt under the pillow. The friend washed the jewel with fragrant water, raised it to the top of a victory banner, offered and praised it with immeasurable offerings, and prayed to it. As a result, all wishes were completely fulfilled. It is said that if the captain's friend had not been there, the jewel would have remained under the pillow, and those women would have starved to death. Similarly, the co-emergent Dharmakaya of mind-essence has always been present within oneself, but it is like the jewel left under the pillow. Due to not recognizing that the Dharmakaya is inherently present, one wanders in samsara. Just as the friend recognized the jewel and made offerings, here, through the introduction of the holy lama, one recognizes one's own mind-essence as the Dharmakaya, thereby completely fulfilling the benefit of oneself and others. Furthermore, in the past, in the land of India, there was a great king who died. The king's corpse was stolen by a minister and thrown among the common people. He became extremely hungry for clothes, food, and shelter, and became indistinguishable from the children of the common people. At one time, a Brahmin fortune-teller examined his marks and found that he possessed the complete marks of a royal lineage.

Then, he was bathed with fragrant water, good incense was burned, he was dressed in fine clothes, adorned with good ornaments, placed on a high throne, and appointed as king. Now everyone knew that he was a special member of the royal family, and all the people became happy and joyful. Similarly, one's own mind, which from the very beginning abides in the spontaneously accomplished state of the Dharmakaya, is obscured by sudden defilements, and wanders in samsara without recognizing itself. When the blessings of the precious guru enter and point it out, one recognizes that one's own mind has been abiding as the Dharmakaya from the beginning, and is liberated from the suffering of wandering in samsara. Again, consider the example of the old man who lost his rope: In a certain place, there was an old couple. At the end of that valley, there was a great spectacle. The old woman sent the old man to the spectacle. The old man said, "I will get mixed up with other people, I will not go." The old woman said, "To prevent you from getting mixed up, tie this on." So, she tied a blue and red rope on his leg and sent him. While he was absorbed in the spectacle, the rope on his leg broke. He got mixed up with other people and asked everyone, "Who am I? Who am I?" The others said, "You are a madman, you are you." But he did not recognize himself. Then, his old wife came and said, "This morning I said you would get mixed up with other people, but you did not listen. Now not recognizing yourself is your fault." Then she beat the old man. The old woman said, "Your nature will be revealed by the gods, pray to the gods." She made him pray to the gods many times, and he became tired and fell asleep. The old woman again tied a blue and red rope on his leg. When he woke up, he said, "Now I am myself." And he recognized himself. It is said that when the old man's rope broke and he did not recognize himself, although it was a delusion, in reality there was no loss of meaning, and the old man remained in his own true nature. Abiding in his true nature, he was deluded about something meaningless. To give an example, just as the old man was initially deluded about something meaningless, one's own mind, which from the very beginning abides in the Dharmakaya, wanders in samsara because of not recognizing it. Just as when the old man had a rope tied to his leg, he recognized himself, when the guru points out the profound instructions...
