It is widely said that it is like rising, it is to initiate the act of purifying obscurations. For example, Milarepa, Gotsangpa, and Lorepa, etc., practiced single-mindedly and attained accomplishment, but almost died from edema, lice disease, and Naga disease. Also, those who have devoted their lives to Dharma and practice single-mindedly, have good experiences and realizations, or the great Bodhisattvas of the area, also endure severe suffering from terminal illnesses for a long time before death. The unbearable severe pain that arises is because all the remaining karmic obscurations are purified at the time of death, so that at the time of death, they attain Buddhahood in the Dharmakaya, or it is a sign of going to a pure land. For example, when Jetsun Milarepa experienced severe pain, the old woman who offered him food said, "I will help you bear the pain." After approaching for a moment, she let out a loud scream and said, "Go away!" When Milarepa threw stones at her, the stones turned into gold. Milarepa said that it was purifying the remaining karmic obscurations, and then he himself bore the pain. Phagmo Drupa and Dromtonpa, etc., also contracted leprosy. They said that it was purifying the remaining karmic obscurations, and then they passed away contentedly. Considering such a meaning, the Tathagata (Shakyamuni Buddha) said, "May I never be born in the three lower realms and other endless cycles of samsara, and in places without leisure. May those karmas that ripen quickly in this life not be experienced in other lives." By making such a prayer, it will be accomplished, just like Neu Zong Nagpa knowingly went there even though he knew someone was coming to greet him. Therefore, even if bad omens occur at the time of death for pure practitioners, it is not necessarily a bad thing. It is like the Bodhisattva Flower Moon being killed innocently, and when the Kalinga king cut off my limbs, I did not give rise to thoughts of anger. Furthermore, karma that is experienced in this life refers to the fact that a major good or bad karma created in a previous life or earlier must definitely ripen in this life. If such karma exists, then in this life, one will have a long life and be free from illness. Even if heretics and Bonpo sorcerers curse with a thousand curses, they cannot cause harm. If the karma of having great wealth and power ripens, even if enemies arise from all four directions, they cannot take away his power. Short life and many diseases

Regarding the ripening of karma, even if a thousand sages who uphold the truth guard it, it is of no avail. Even summoning the renowned physician Jivaka will not work. Regarding the ripening of karma that causes the decline of fortune and power, all food, wealth, and enjoyment are like pouring water into a leaky vessel. Relatives and servants, who are like one's own heart, will come colluding with enemies. In such a situation, even the grace of the Three Jewels cannot save, let alone others. When the army of a border king arrived, the son of Maugala asked if the Shakya clan could cover the city of Kapilavastu with a single bowl, making it invisible. The Buddha said, "Karma will seize its owner." There, five hundred members of the Shakya clan were killed, and the happiness of five hundred Shakya women was taken away. The Buddha said that this was the karma of a previous life, and even if the Buddha himself were present, he could not save them. The benefits of the Buddha's name and dharani mantras, for everything, the ripening of past karma is unavoidable. What is thus spoken of is karma to be experienced in the present life. The five heinous crimes and other serious sins, as well as great virtues, because there is no interruption by other lives, will definitely ripen in the next life, so it is uninterrupted karma. Medium good and evil karma will definitely ripen in the life after the next life, so it is karma to be experienced in the place of birth. Small good and evil karma, if stimulated by conditions, may ripen in this life. If it encounters conditions, it may lie dormant even for hundreds of thousands of kalpas. What must ripen at some point without being wasted is karma to be experienced in another number. Short life, many diseases, etc., are driven by bad karma and ripen in this life, and the results can be delayed and postponed through rituals and medicine, such as postponing the deadline for a lawsuit. If there is no bad karma from the past, then even demons cannot harm, and diseases will not occur. The karma of long life, freedom from disease, and great fortune, by offering and practicing worldly deities, is brought forward to ripen in this life, just like collecting next year's rent this year. The accomplishments of wisdom deities are not like that, but arise from the past aspirations and the power of compassion of that deity. Karma that is not certain to be experienced is said to be like the karma in the continuum of an Arhat.
