It is said, "The lineage connection is very profound." Lord Naropa said, "The characteristic of a lama is that he possesses the lineage." Orgyen Rinpoche said, "If the lama is not mistaken, the sacred Dharma will not be mistaken; if the sacred Dharma is not mistaken, then whatever practice is done will not be wasted, and accomplishment will inevitably be attained." Like that. Therefore, entering this supreme lineage is the greatest assurance of peace of mind. Even if one cannot practice after entering this lineage, it is said by the predecessors that even lying down with one's head turned in that direction will bring a sense of non-discouragement. Although students with the proper qualities are rare, if one gradually trains the mind through the preliminary practices, even those who are not vessels will gradually become vessels, which is the difference between skillful means or skillful guidance. The text says, "The method of briefly introducing realization from the text is as follows." Therefore, if the introduction is brief, it can be summarized into three: preliminary, main practice, and subsequent practice. The preliminary practices are divided into two: common and special. The first is further divided into four, the first of which is: not being born in the three lower realms, not being born in barbarian lands, not being born in the long-life gods, not having wrong views towards the Three Jewels, not being born in the dark aeon when no Buddha appears, and those who are scattered do not have the opportunity to practice Dharma, that is, not being born in these eight states of unfreedom, obtaining a human body, being born in a place where the Dharma flourishes, having complete faculties, not having committed the five heinous crimes in this life, and having faith in the Three Jewels, these are the five self-perfections. The appearance of a Buddha, the teaching of the Dharma by the Buddha, abiding in the Buddha's teachings, the presence of a virtuous spiritual friend who upholds the teachings, and the compassionate guidance of others by the spiritual friend, these are the five other-perfections. This body, which possesses these eighteen perfections, if used for the practice of the sacred Dharma, can accomplish perfect enlightenment, and is therefore a jewel that is even more precious than a wish-fulfilling jewel. It is difficult to obtain such a body, because it must be obtained by guarding pure morality, and it is also difficult to guard pure morality. For example, when scattering mustard seeds, it is difficult for the mustard seeds to enter the eye of a needle; when scattering beans on a drum and a wall, it is difficult for the beans to stick; in the vast ocean, the wind carries a yoke with a single hole in all directions, and a blind turtle that is a hundred years old comes to the surface of the water only once.
