Why is it that even if one observes before obtaining the vows, it does not become a vow? We monastics, if we do not have the thought of renunciation when requesting vows, although it is difficult to generate qualified vows, even if we request them carelessly at first, if the thought of renunciation arises later, it can be restored. This is what I heard from the mouth of a virtuous friend. The five precepts of a lay devotee, the ten precepts of a novice monk, and the 253 precepts of a fully ordained monk are difficult to know and few can keep them. If the four root vows are not broken and the mind of virtue is not abandoned, it is said that one can still be counted among the virtuous today. If all the Vinaya precepts are summarized, they are all included in abandoning the basis of harming others. All are included in being mindful in body, speech, and mind. The four root vows should be protected like life. Even if the subtle branches are broken, it is not right to think that there is no fault, because even a small fault will cause one to fall. If confession and vows are not fully accomplished, one will surely take an evil body. When near the Sangha community, it is important to go to the Uposatha assembly. Even if you cannot gather, you should bless the Uposatha yourself. In a solitary place such as a hermitage, it is especially important to practice Shamatha and Uposatha. On auspicious days such as the eighth and fifteenth days of the month, arrange the statues of the Ten Direction Buddhas, and offer mandalas, incense, etc. If you cannot prepare them, it is enough to meditate in your mind. Invite the holy ones, offer mandalas, and make praises. Recite prostrations, confessions, etc. To confess many subtle faults, meditate on Shamatha with the essential points of the body. If you know, practice one session; if you do not know, contemplate the impermanence of conditioned phenomena, the suffering of samsara with outflows, and the path of peace and Nirvana. After meditating on these in your mind, dedicate and make aspirations with "Ah! The discipline of the precepts is without fault," etc. This is the Shamatha Uposatha. Increase virtue and purify downfalls. This is the nature of Uposatha. If you keep the vows purely, even if you die, it is not a real death, you can be satisfied with the teachings of human and divine bodies. Losing vows is worse than death, for four hundred million kalpas, you will only wander in evil realms. A person with morality in this life is pleasing to the eyes of the noble ones and is respected by all beings. If morality is corrupted, it is despised by all. Sugata!

Having transgressed the earth's oath and broken vows, even relying on Dharma protectors is not liberation. After destroying the Buddha's teachings, if one performs invocation and abidance, one brings destruction upon oneself. Whatever power or invocation is performed, it will be as if one has done it to oneself. In the great tantra of the Root Tantra of Manjushri, the All-Powerful One did not say that mantras would be accomplished for those who are immoral. Therefore, even if mantras are recited, power and blessings will not arise. Therefore, the four root vows, and especially the unique vow of Tibet, Guard them as precious as your life. Thus spoke the nephew Geshepa, named Bhikshu Trinle, instructed by Bhikshu Raga Asya. ༈ །།Namo Maha Karunikaye. Sanskrit Romanization: namo mahākaruṇikāya, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage to the Great Compassionate One). Like a seed, water, fertilizer, and harvest for attaining perfect Buddhahood, the beginning, middle, and end are crucial, Bodhicitta is like a jewel. In the tradition of the extensive conduct lineage, Bodhicitta does not arise for just anyone. In the ritual of ultimate Bodhicitta, there are many disagreements and disputes. In the tradition of the profound view lineage, Bodhicitta arises even if one asks anyone, it is uncontroversial, easy, and greatly beneficial, therefore, take the vows of Bodhicitta. Teaching Dharma in public is of great benefit to beings, Why is that? Because the seed of Bodhi has been planted in the mindstream. Although the precepts of Bodhicitta are limitless, they are all included in the practice based on benefiting others. Generating the mind to benefit beings until Buddhahood is attained, without desiring to become a Buddha oneself, is supreme, like the Three Protectors alone. The mind of wanting to attain Buddhahood simultaneously with oneself and all beings is intermediate. For the sake of benefiting all sentient beings, once one has attained Buddhahood oneself, and then, for as long as samsara exists, guiding beings through emanations, such a mind is indispensable. If one does not have it, even if one strives in Dharma, one will stray into the path of the Hinayana Hearers. Once one has strayed into the path of the Hearers, even though one is free from all the sufferings of samsara, because it obstructs the attainment of Buddhahood, according to the Mahayana tradition, it is worse than falling into the lower realms. Therefore, whether one practices heart commitments, virtuous deeds, or any virtuous activity, one should do it for the sake of sentient beings, for the sake of attaining perfect Buddhahood. One should think, "I will do this." First, secure the foundation with the mind of Bodhicitta, and then dedicate and aspire accordingly. The thought of Bodhicitta.
