By relying (on the Guru), one obtains the Dharma; its root is also the kindness of that Guru. When an ordinary Guru of individual beings explains the Dharma and bestows empowerment to others, all Buddhas rejoice at this and descend in the space in front, paying homage, saying: "Even though we speak, there is no opportunity to be heard; what you say is excellent," and then depart. When an ordinary Guru bestows empowerment, even if that Guru has no blessings, for the benefit of the disciple receiving the empowerment, whatever deity is the Buddha-Idam, at the time of empowerment, enters that Guru and bestows blessings on that disciple. After the empowerment is completed, that deity departs. Therefore, when making offerings to the Guru, if the offering is made at the time of empowerment, it is no different from offering to that Idam directly. It is said in the scriptures that the merit is increased a hundred thousandfold. Because one's own understanding and wisdom are vast, even if one is proficient in all empowerment rituals, if one has not obtained them from a Guru beforehand, even if one enters oneself, one will not obtain empowerment. If one bestows it on others, it is the same as committing the five heinous crimes; it is stealing the secret Dharma from Vajradhara. If one has obtained it beforehand, then for oneself, receiving empowerment is like obtaining it anew, blessings arise, and deficiencies are fulfilled. This is also the kindness of that Guru. Even if one's own wisdom is perfect, and one understands and can explain all the stages of guidance, if one has not obtained it from a Guru beforehand, even if one practices oneself, realization will not arise. If one explains it to others, the faults and obscurations are immeasurable. If one has obtained it beforehand, even if one does not remember it, if one reads the guiding texts and practices oneself, then, as explained in the scriptures, realization arises in stages. Explaining it to others is of great benefit. Those who are fortunate will give rise to realization. Even if it does not arise, there will be the benefit of obtaining the transmission. This is also the kindness of the first Guru. If one has not obtained the vows and transmission from a Guru beforehand, even if one keeps the vows, there is no benefit of the vows. Although there is merit, it is an intermediate virtue, and it will not turn into the cause of obtaining Buddhahood. If one obtains the vows and then keeps them, merit will arise. Even if one gives the vows and transmission to others, one will obtain the vows. This is also the kindness of the first Guru. Even if one finds the sadhana texts and knows how to practice, if one has not obtained it from a Guru beforehand, even if one practices, it will not be accomplished. Even if one recites mantras for a long time.

Even if illness subsides and evil spirits are pacified, and there is a slight improvement, It is said that in the future, one will be born in the three lower realms. If one practices what is received from the Lama, it will be quickly accomplished. The protection of this life and the guide for the next life, This is also the kindness of the Lama. Having meditated on the complete Buddha on the crown of the head, Even if one prays with one-pointed devotion, Because there is no connection with that Buddha, It is difficult for blessings to enter, and the distance is far. Lama Inseparably from that Buddha, Having meditated and prayed with one-pointed devotion, The compassion and blessings of the Buddha are great, Because there is a connection with that Lama, The blessings of that Buddha quickly enter. A Lama is definitely a Buddha, When meditating on the actual body like father and son, It is easy to grasp the object, blessings are quick, And it is good because faith and pure appearances increase. When meditating on an ordinary Lama as the actual body, Like spots appearing on a carved bowl, Whatever blessings that Lama has, And whatever afflictions, five poisons, illnesses, and evil spirits there are, Will enter together, so it is not permissible to meditate on the actual body. The essence is inseparable from that Lama, The form is profound to meditate on as the body of the Buddha. If you want longevity, meditate on Amitayus (Tibetan: ཚེ་དཔག་མེད།, Sanskrit Devanagari: अमिताभ, Sanskrit Romanization: Amitābha, Chinese literal meaning: Immeasurable Life). If you want to be born in the Pure Land of Great Bliss, meditate on Amitabha (Tibetan: འོད་དཔག་མེད།, Sanskrit Devanagari: अमिताभ, Sanskrit Romanization: Amitābha, Chinese literal meaning: Immeasurable Light). If you want to generate altruism and compassion, meditate on Avalokiteśvara (Tibetan: སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས།, Sanskrit Devanagari: अवलोकितेश्वर, Sanskrit Romanization: Avalokiteśvara, Chinese literal meaning: One who looks down with compassion). If you want to save all fears, meditate on the form of Tara. If you want to pacify all illnesses, meditate on the Medicine Buddha. If you want great blessings and power, meditate on the form of Orgyen. If you want great power, meditate on Vajrapani (Tibetan: ཕྱག་ན་རྡོ་རྗེ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्रपाणि, Sanskrit Romanization: Vajrapāṇi, Chinese literal meaning: Vajra in Hand). If you want great wisdom, meditate on Manjushri (Tibetan: འཇམ་པའི་དབྱངས།, Sanskrit Devanagari: मञ्जुश्री, Sanskrit Romanization: Mañjuśrī, Chinese literal meaning: Gentle Glory). If you want great enjoyment, meditate on Jambhala (Tibetan: ཛཾ་བྷ་ལ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: जम्भल, Sanskrit Romanization: Jambhala, Chinese literal meaning: Wealth God). If you want to generate realization, meditate on Vajradhara (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང་།, Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्रधर, Sanskrit Romanization: Vajradhara, Chinese literal meaning: Holder of the Vajra). Or meditate on Milarepa, Gampopa, etc., By meditating on whatever you want, whatever accomplishments you want will arise. For example, like a wish-fulfilling jewel, precious. Therefore, the Lama is a precious Buddha. One's own Lama is the Buddha, There is no difference from any sentient being, If one is certain that it is the actual Buddha, Then all the empowerments, transmissions, and pith instructions received, Are no different from receiving them from the actual Buddha. By doing this, the lineage is very powerful, It is impossible for blessings not to arise, it is a pith instruction. Having taken the Lama who abides as the Buddha to be a human, I confess to dividing the lineage into near and far. This is the meaning of what Lingje Repa said, The mind is the nature of reality.
