Turning back after bestowing empowerments, etc., is like a blind man leading a blind man, think of the burden being heavier in the future. When realization arises in the mind, even without qualities, one will become a lama. Also, Ri Sonam Zangpo and Gyara Sherab Phuntsok, and Drukpa Sonam Gewa, they couldn't even read a single letter, yet there were phenomena of the earth splitting and rocks cracking. If you want to be a lama, cherish your own mind. If your own mind is liberated, then the benefit of beings will arise. This is the biography of the Kagyu lamas. Sometimes one desires many qualities. As soon as the thought of wanting to rely on a spiritual friend arises, remember impermanence and death. Life is short, like the winter sun. Obstacles are like a butter lamp in the wind. The Lord of Death, the Mara, may come at any time, without warning. Knowing that it will come is the Lord of Death, the Mara. What cannot be turned back is the Lord of Death, the Mara. Months follow one another, the next life. Who will die first is uncertain. Tomorrow, the day after, at this time, who knows if we will still be on this earth? The written scriptures will be taken by others. The qualities learned are endless. The corpse is burned by fire and carried away by the wind, or eaten by birds, dogs, and insects. Consciousness travels with good and bad karma. At that time, one who can liberate oneself, look at oneself with compassion. The nephew, Kyerpa Gangpa, set aside learning qualities, and for three years practiced the Great Compassionate One. He saw the face of the deity and attained unobstructed clairvoyance. He became a lama in U-Tsang and Kham, and received great offerings from the Chinese emperor. Compared to knowing many qualities, if signs appear in the practice of the Great Compassionate One, think especially about that. I am called Naydo Lama. At this time, I am very famous. This is the blessing of practicing the Great Compassionate One for several years. There are people who have a hundred times more qualities than me. Whatever their birth and lineage, there are definitely many who are better than me. Yet they prostrate to me and request empowerments and transmissions. Do you understand this reason? If you want to be a lama, then through the vase practice, make the mantra and visualization produce signs. Sometimes the thought arises of wanting to live alone. As soon as the thought of wanting to live alone arises, there is no certainty of cultivating practice. Without certainty of seizing a solitary place, staying in a solitary place and closing oneself off, doing things like killing, stealing, and engaging in sexual misconduct, is like lying outside for three months in winter. Think that this is meaningless suffering. If you have not tamed your own mind, even if you meditate alone in a cave, you are just like the bats of Ele.

Like an illusion. Like birds, wild animals, and predators. Anger arises from the tree-like siblings. If the inner anger is not pacified, It is like a poisonous snake nesting in the mountains, Like a musk deer dwelling on a rock. Therefore, when anger arises, Look directly at its face. It will appear as emptiness, without substance. Clear and empty, is the Great Seal. Thus, Rāga Asya said. On the twenty-first day of the Monkey Month in the Horse Year, As an instruction for the practice of vase empowerment, Spoken from the experience that arose. May there be auspiciousness! Alas! Alas! A-tsa-ma! One's own wealth is bound by stinginess, Unwilling to make offerings upwards or give downwards. Even if one has great power and wealth, There is no protection for the incapable. Even if one has great merits, One fears that evil people will learn. Without guarding vows and commitments, One indulges in meat, alcohol, and evening gatherings. The mind is full of desire and stinginess, Very diligent in non-celibate conduct. Towards the merit and enjoyment of others, One is unhappy while plundering them. Such karmic results ripen into a hungry ghost. Below the Indian city of Sarnath, At the boundary of five hundred yojanas, In the great sandy plain without water, Even without the sun, the heat is intense. In the center of such a place, inside a palace, The king of the hungry ghosts is named Yama, The pure ones see him as the body of the Buddha, Seeing the one with a red topknot. Some see women adorned with jewels, Wearing headdresses as large as sandalwood trees, Surrounded by many attendants, Seeing immeasurable enjoyment. Around that palace, In the midst of immeasurable enjoyment, Even if the knees sink deep, one can walk, But one cannot eat, because there are wrathful deities and, Soldiers with weapons guarding. Behind that, there are lakes, forests, and so on, Although complete and abundant, Due to the ripening of each one's bad karma, The waters all appear as pus, blood, and poisonous water. Some see the water dried up into sand. The leaves and fruits of the trees, although good, When one runs to eat them, one sees a sandy beach and, Dry trees turned gray. Running to find food, one becomes tired and exhausted, Hungry, one cuts one's own flesh to eat. From the wounds of mutual scratching, Pus and blood flow out. Seeing water and running towards it, it seeps into the ground, Digging the ground, the fingernails touch bone. Hearing the sound of water, but unable to obtain it. Some have bodies that are large, The belly like a mountain-sized ocean, The head only the size of a clay pot, The mouth only the size of the eye of a needle.
