It's like being without anything. Otherwise, these occasional movements, Like fish darting in a clear lake. The movement cannot destroy the abiding. Considering this, Jowo Je (Venerable Atiśa) said: "Calm abiding is like a small lake, Insight is like a fish darting." At this time, without looking at the essence, Just the state of abiding quietly, In reality, it is signless calm abiding, It is just pure calm abiding. On the very nature of abiding itself, By looking straight and nakedly, The nature of abiding is emptiness itself, Clearly and openly it arises. Abiding and nature, the two emptinesses, Inseparably mixed into one, This is the practice of uniting calm and insight. At this time, craving for food and clothing is less, The head of afflictions such as hatred, Appears to be suppressed. It feels like nothing is needed. Things become loose. Wanting to go to deserted valleys, etc., Although wild thoughts may suddenly arise, But that is the stirring of the innate nature, it will not last. Without being rough with thoughts, It is crucial to maintain the seat and suppress them. If there is too much walking, staying, and doing, The experience will disappear like morning mist. There is a danger of reverting to ordinariness. The experience is the boundary of the fourth stage. These words spoken by Ra Ga Asya, May they benefit the newcomers! Sanskrit Romanization: Namo Mahāmudrāye, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage to the Great Seal) Many such as the three pitfalls, For each arising gate of experience, Clinging to strong attachment, Considering it as a supreme pitfall as well. Sometimes even if such an experience arises, It does not become a fault. Whatever arises, there is no choice of good or bad, Without distraction, continuously, without giving up, Like a widow raising an orphan, If it is naturally continued, realization will arise. There is no excuse for approaching desire, Without distraction, have a mindful shepherd guarding, Do not jump and run, Sometimes a choice arises for the place. When the thought of choosing a place arises, Even if meditating on the peak of Mount Kailash, If you do not protect the nature of your own mind, Apart from greater winds, Realization will turn into wrong views and nothing will be gained. Even if meditating in a cool grove, If you fail to protect The nature of your own mind, Apart from greater fear, Experience and realization will not come. Even if walking in a deserted valley, If you do not protect the nature of your own mind, Apart from being more depressed, Realization will not arise. Sometimes you might think of seeking a lama, Even if relying on a hundred learned and virtuous lamas, The scriptures

Apart from extensive explanations, If you don't tame your own mind's nature, There's no way to grant the blessing of realization. Now I still want to ask for some instructions, Even if you ask for hundreds and thousands of instructions, Apart from extensive explanations, There is no more profound instruction to teach Than taming your own mind's nature. Sometimes I think about doing some learning, For each aspect of knowledge and skills, Its edge is like measuring the sky with your hands. Life is short, you don't know when you will die. Once realization dawns from within, The Dharma that has not been studied will spring from the heart, Knowing one thing, you become wise in all. Sometimes the desire to accumulate food and wealth arises, All people, regardless of size, Accumulate wealth through thinking, But without the fruit of generosity, they will be poor and destitute, Accumulating does not accumulate anything. Once realization dawns from within, Even if there is no greed in the mind, Food, wealth, and enjoyment will fall like rain. Sometimes the thought of friends arises, No matter how deep the friendship, A single bad word will hurt feelings, Many friends turn against each other. Even if the Sangha is prosperous and complete, At the time of death, you wander alone without friends. At that time, the inseparable and protecting friend, Is to seek the greatness of your own mind's awareness. Sometimes the thought of food arises, No matter how much delicious meat and wine you eat, After a day it becomes an impure substance, Observing the thought of delicious and not delicious, Its nature is emptiness. The supreme food is the food of Samadhi, When Shamatha and Vipassanā are well established, Even without food and drink, you will not feel hungry, Living a simple life, the body is also radiant. Life is the manifestation of the world, the illusion of gods and demons. A Dharma practitioner will not die of starvation. Sometimes I want to do asceticism, If you don't tame your own mind's nature, Wishing to purify sins through starvation, That is the way of the Tirthikas. If it happens naturally, there is no need to stop it. Eating food without distraction, Is the faultless Tsokhorlo (feast gathering). I, Milarepa, While eating and practicing, Have the instruction of the food and drink Tsokhorlo, The meaning of what was said is also in this. If you can constantly guard your own mind, The five poisons and non-virtues will naturally stop. If you pour water on the fire in the stove, The smoke will disappear from the windows and wall cracks. Taming your own mind is the best of taming, The key point of all the Dharmas, Is contained in guarding your own mind. The practice of the Sutras is unparalleled, If you can tame your own mind's nature, The naked Dharmakaya will appear directly.
