As stated in the Sutra of Offering Food, Drink, and Lamps: The result of offering lamps is that one will not lose mindfulness at the time of death, one will be able to see a little (light), and one will also see beautiful sights that one has never seen before. After death, one will be reborn in a good or bad realm, and one will know that one's body abides in the abode of the gods. Thus, establish longevity lamps, and also during the great assemblies of peaceful and wrathful practices and at ordinary times, offer lamps in various temples. Furthermore, the Sutra of the Noble Avalokiteśvara states: Whoever makes an image of the supreme teacher, whether it is painted on cloth, drawn on a wall, or made of gold, please listen carefully to all the differences in the merits of these. One will not be made blind or hunchbacked, and one's limbs will not be ugly. This person will be endowed with good form and beautiful complexion, and will be adorned with the thirty-two marks. The body will be pure, one will obtain excellence, one will gain courage, the voice will be melodious and pleasing, one will have wisdom, and one will be worshiped by all beings in the world. Seeing this, beings will feel happiness and joy. One will not commit evil deeds, one will have a mind without anger, one will be without hypocrisy, one will not incite strife among kings, one will have power, great authority, and fame will spread far and wide. In order to see such immeasurable merits, offerings are made to the two palaces of the hundred deities of the Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara of the Guru lineage, as well as to the palace of the Medicine Buddha, Amitāyus, Padmasambhava, the Thousand Buddhas of the Auspicious Aeon, the thousand images of Śākyamuni Buddha, and some thangkas such as mandalas and the Three Roots. Also offered are two silver-written volumes and many small books, the three parts of the Heavenly Dharma, and so on. Similarly, the Sutra of Avalokiteśvara states: Whoever worships the Tathāgata, that person will possess a heap of wealth, and will not be harmed by kings, thieves, fire, or water. Whoever worships the lamp of the world, in all lifetimes, will be without sorrow, without harm, and will become a universal monarch, possessing great wealth. As it is said, the Guru's Intentions Gathering states: If one recites mantras continuously for seven days, all those who participate in the practice will receive benefits equal to practicing for seven years each. And it is said that the merit of reciting the six-syllable mantra is greater than performing a hundred times the great practice. Only fifty-five Buddha images were offered.

Mala. Regarding the three great practices of the Gongdü (Mind Accomplishment), as well as the vase practice and the four great practices of the Sangdü (Secret Assembly), and the one and eight great practices of the Tukdrub (Mind Practice). Compared to that, even smaller parts, such as the scattered practices of Gyalwa Gyatso and others, which accomplish many things. In the sutra of Avalokiteśvara, it says: If someone were to make offerings to countless thousands of Buddhas, as well as hundreds of millions of Buddhas, for as many kalpas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, it would not compare to those who, when the Dharma declines as spoken by the Protector of the World (Avalokiteśvara), uphold the Dharma day and night; their merit is far superior. Upholding the Dharma when the Dharma declines is like making offerings to all the Buddhas of the past, as well as the Buddhas who abide in the wisdom of the Buddhas; it is like making offerings to me. Therefore, in this age, in this direction, when the Dharma declines, all of us, teachers and students, must strive in hearing, contemplation, and meditation. Those who offer excellent food to the Sangha, suitable for monks and nuns, when they reside in the monasteries of samsara, will receive food with excellent taste and color. Those who offer abundant drinks to the Sangha, suitable for monks and nuns, when they reside in the monasteries of samsara, will receive various drinks with excellent taste and color. Therefore, as the Lord Buddha has said, I (referring to the author) and about forty of my retinue of monks who uphold vows, will always have sufficient food and drink. In the Hevajra Root Tantra, it says: Compared to making offerings to countless Shravakas, even doing a small tsok (gathering) once, its merit is immeasurable, not even one hundred thousandth can compare. Therefore, always strive to perform the tsok wheel. Be moderate with the tsok wine, and avoid offering meat as if it were poison. Similarly, in the teachings of the Lord Buddha, it says: If someone has a virtuous mind, and rejoices in the king's offerings made by others, even if they have not done it themselves, then in short, they are considered to have made the offering. Therefore, for the monasteries that are seen and heard of today, as well as the Kangyur and Tengyur, etc., rejoice in the actions of others. In this way, all the actions of us, teachers and retinue, are in accordance with the Dharma, thinking only of virtuous deeds. However, if there is anything bad or wrong, confess it before all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. May these not become obstacles in this life and the next. Thus, for what others offer to me.
