A fire-stoker spoke a bit of meditation. The fire-stoker doesn't know the essence of meditation, yet there he is saying, "Non-elaboration, non-elaboration." Tonight, a mute is arguing about the pāramitās. The mute doesn't know how to debate, yet there he is saying, "The ten bhūmis, the ten bhūmis." Tonight, a deaf person is blowing a conch shell. The deaf person doesn't hear the sound of the conch, yet it is heard by those with keen ears. These are examples of stories. If you give eight examples, there are nine reasons. Tonight, I, a poor child, will also speak a bit of Dharma. I truly don't know the pure Dharma, but if there are fortunate ones, they might understand. Listen, listen, all you gathered here. Don't be too attached to your homeland, for it is an impermanent city of gandharvas. The ultimate result of accumulation is collapse. Don't be too fond of the body, for it is impermanent food for birds and dogs. The ultimate result of birth is death. Don't be too stingy with wealth, for it is the impermanent honey of bees. The ultimate result of accumulation is depletion. Don't be too attached to friends, for they are impermanent guests at a market. The ultimate result of assembly is separation. Old age is impermanent like a ghost, like the sun on a mountain peak. Parents are the field of merit for offerings. Don't harbor resentment towards enemies, for they are parents from many lifetimes. Enemies may also become relatives. Don't think you will live long, death is imminent. It is uncertain when one will die, alas! Don't postpone the Dharma, for it is unpredictable when the Lord of Death will come. Which will come first, tomorrow or the next life? Before the messenger of the Lord of Death, Yama, if there are no three words to say, if there are no three steps to escape, if there is no wealth to bribe, if there are no powerful people to plead, if there are no wise people to argue, if there are no officials to protect, I, a poor child, feel sad. All you gathered here, what do you think? Listen again, all you gathered here. I, a poor child, am uneasy. Since the formation of the world, there is not one person who has remained after death. Now, everyone who is born will eventually die, I fear. Many people my age have died, now I too will die, I fear. Leaders and people, don't be too cruel, the current power is the merit accumulated in the past. Power alone does not guarantee victory, power is strong only if the law is in accordance with the Dharma. If there are many who promise to release lives tonight, it is a sign that the leaders and people have broad minds. Please do not punish me.

I am a beggar with a dog's mouth and a pig's lips. Dear uncles and fathers, don't worry too much. Doubts and suspicions are like empty fishing nets. Having doubts in your heart is of no benefit. If you can promise a single offering tonight, It will be a sign that the uncles and fathers have good intentions. Please don't be angry with me, I am just an ignorant, talkative person. Dear little children, don't kill the little birds, They may be your parents from previous lives. Flesh and blood are impure and defiled food. If the little children can abandon sin, Then their mother will not be robbed by thieves. Please don't throw ashes at me, I may be a treasure that can be useful someday. Dear aunts and mothers, don't be too stingy, Wealth and possessions are the result of generosity in previous lives. Accumulating wealth does not guarantee keeping it. If you can promise a virtuous deed tonight, It will be a sign that the aunts and mothers are wise. Please don't pout at me, I am a greedy beggar child. Dear strong men, don't be too hateful, Defeated words are like empty thunder. Being arrogant and competitive is like seeking one's own death. A swift arrow is like a stepping stone to hell. Suffering and sin are self-inflicted. If someone can confess their sins tonight, It will be like a father having a good son. Please don't stare at me, I am just a young monk's joke. Dear young women, don't be too conceited, The body is an impure bag of pus and blood. Beauty and radiance are like summer flowers. Ornaments and decorations are like deceiving oneself. If you can promise a butter lamp tonight, It will be a sign that the young women have intelligence. Please don't be shy with me, I may be a topic of conversation that can be useful someday. All of you gathered here tonight, Please recite at least once the six-syllable mantra (唵嘛呢叭咪吽, oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ, om mani padme hum, Hail the jewel in the lotus). Reciting the six-syllable mantra is better than a hundred vats of strong liquor. Carrying strong liquor, there is nowhere to drink it. When suffering from the heat of hell after death, The six-syllable mantra can quench thirst. Reciting the six-syllable mantra is better than a hundred portions of meat. Carrying meat, there is nowhere to go. When going to the realm of the hungry ghosts after death, The six-syllable mantra can be enjoyed without end. Reciting the six-syllable mantra is better than a hundred red robes. Wearing red robes, there is nowhere to go. When going to the cold hell after death, The six-syllable mantra can withstand the cold. Reciting the six-syllable mantra is better than a hundred white yaks. Leading white yaks, there is nowhere to go. After death
