If, while abiding, there is no clarity of seeing one's own face by oneself, and it is dull and unclear like being asleep, then it is called a stagnant or confused abiding. Therefore, one's own essence is emptiness, the appearance is luminosity, and luminosity and emptiness are united. It is as clear as a butter lamp without wind. One's own face is seen by oneself, nakedly, without being obscured. Such an abiding, although it has the union of clarity, awareness, and emptiness, if attachment arises to the great bliss of body and mind because of its power, one will stray into the six desire realms. If one is attached to luminosity, one will stray into the seventeen places of the form realm, such as cloudless and heatless. If one thinks that the nature of all phenomena is unconditioned and spontaneously accomplished, the cause is the Tathagatagarbha, permanent, stable, and unchanging, but does not truly understand its nature beyond thought and expression, but instead clings to an unchanging, constant, and hard object, then that is an excess of nature, straying into the extreme of permanence. If, because one does not understand that formless, soundless, etc., are empty of inherent existence, one thinks that there is nothing at all, and thereby slanders dependent origination, then that is an excess of emptiness, straying into the extreme of nihilism. So, how do we cut off these wrong paths? The Guhyagarbha Tantra says: "Without following arising sensations, one will not stray into the ordinary world. Without blocking the five senses, one will not stray into the realm of non-perception. Holding the meaning of profound wisdom, one will not stray into the realm of the unstated. Without being attached to the taste of peaceful abiding, one will not stray into the realm of mind-holding meditation. Without meditating on the realm of existence and non-existence, one will not stray into the extremes of permanence and annihilation." Thus it is said. In short, the essence of mind is itself the Dharmakaya, so there is no need to modify it. How it arises and abides, the lower ones examine and analyze it, and emptiness will appear as the Dharmakaya. The middle ones just stare at what appears, and the Dharmakaya will appear naturally. The superior ones do not modify what appears, but let it relax naturally, like water and waves, everything will appear as the one taste of the Dharmakaya's essence. Therefore, if one can practice the three: not modifying, not desiring, and not being attached to good experiences, then all wrong paths will be cut off. The Definitive Meaning Samgraha Tantra says: "Like the sun rising without shadows, realizing the meaning of the self-born Dharmakaya, wrong paths, confusion, objects, and mind are eliminated from the root, all phenomena are mindless, the body of enlightenment." And the Great Compassionate Avalokiteshvara's Profound View Tantra says:

Through the power of the spontaneously abiding compassion, all afflictions and discriminations are pacified, and one abides clearly in the meaning of the self-illuminating nature of reality. Through the power of insight, whatever discriminations and afflictions arise, they abide without an object because their own essence is emptiness. Because calm abiding and insight are combined, one does not fall to the extreme of appearance, and the mind abides in self-aware emptiness without any grasping. One does not fall to the extreme of emptiness, and although nothing is established, everything appears in the essence of emptiness. Emptiness and appearance are inseparable, the essence is the nature of reality, and mind itself abides without differentiation. In this, the intention of the Buddhas is decisively determined without any possibility of error. Thus it is said. The view of Great Compassion is also stated in the Tantra of the Beginning: Unlike other vehicles, there is no straying or obscuration, because all phenomena are spontaneously luminous as self-arisen wisdom. Therefore, it is decisively determined without straying or obscuration. Thus it is said. After that, it is important to know what is to be purified and what purifies. Without what is to be purified and what purifies, the deity as "Bhepa" exists in the three tantras of Action, Performance, and Yoga, but that does not accomplish the meaning of the generation stage; it is merely deity yoga. The deity yoga that recognizes what is to be purified and what purifies is the generation stage of the Unsurpassed Yoga. Regarding this, many views arise about what is to be purified. Previous scholars who favored the Shentong Madhyamaka tenets asserted that only the perfectly established, divided into three characteristics from each of the aggregates, elements, and sources, is what is to be purified, while the imputed and dependent are not what is to be purified, because conventional truth is to be abandoned. The meaning of what is to be purified is that "Bhepa" as a deity must be something that can become a deity, because conventional truth is naturally pure and is not a deity, so it is impossible to become a deity. Thus it was said. Many scholars refuted this with various scriptural and logical reasons. The Vajra Ghanta Tantra states: "In order to destroy the temporary state of the ordinary, Bhepa (Tibetan: བྷེ་པ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: भे प, Sanskrit Romanization: bhe pa, Chinese literal meaning: Destroyer) is truly renowned." Thus it is said, therefore conventional truth is said to be what is to be purified. The meaning of the deity Bhepa from the state of freedom from elaboration and self-emptiness is spoken from the state of emptiness, but the deity Bhopa is not from the state of freedom from elaboration, because the two
