Therefore. The object of this is to meditate so that those with attachment and aversion in others do not generate afflictions, so afflictions belong to the desire realm, and the unarisen future, including the basis, such as attachment, are the objects of practice for those who are to be abandoned through meditation. Because those in the upper realms focus on the noble ones, the generation of afflictions is less likely. Because those already born cannot be abandoned. Those to be abandoned by sight are without basis, and those who focus on examining all things, because they themselves focus on everything, there are also those who focus on the continuums of others, so they cannot be abandoned. Those to be abandoned through meditation focus on the first two truths, so they can abandon the basis. Secondly, knowing from aspiration is like the nature of non-affliction, knowing conventionally, as well as the fourth dhyana of the earth, and the nature of the immovable dharma of the person, and the human basis of the three continents, so too are the nature and so on of knowing from aspiration. However, the object of knowing from aspiration is not only afflictions and their root, but all dharmas such as form. Thus, knowing from aspiration is to first make the aspiration to know this and that, and then enter into samadhi in the fourth dhyana, knowing how much it has become in that realm. In this, the Vaibhashikas say that the formless cannot be known directly, because it is the realm of the fourth dhyana, so the upper formless is not its realm. This is similar to direct knowledge, which is the realm of itself and the lower realms. However, those with inferior body and mind and the same cause of peace are said to be born from the formless. It is said that the formless is born from those who have the practice of equipoise. It is said that those who have attained the samadhi of the formless and have lost the path will be born in the formless. It should be known that farmers measure fields from grain and measure grain from fields. According to the tenets of others, there is nothing that has not become an object of direct perception for the Buddhas, so they also say that they directly know the formless. In the Ornament for Clear Realization, it says: The view of the Shravakas without afflictions, humans can completely abandon afflictions, in villages and so on.

of afflictions. Severing the continuum, it is called the absence of afflictions of the Victorious Ones. The samadhi without afflictions of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers is focused on the self, and it is not permissible for afflictions to arise in the continuum of some individuals. Therefore, effort is made to completely eliminate the arising of human afflictions, which is temporary and momentary. The samadhi without afflictions of the Buddhas is said to be pervasive and permanent because they intend to eradicate the seeds of afflictions from the root in all sentient beings with afflictions in towns and so on. Knowing from aspiration also requires effort for Hearers and so on, grasping at signs, and being obstructed because they have not abandoned the obscurations of knowledge and habitual tendencies. Because they enter into nirvana without remainder, it is occasional, and because they have not abandoned the obscurations of knowledge, they do not answer all questions. The Buddhas, on the other hand, are without signs, entering naturally without effort, and because they are not attached to things, they are free from attachment to forms and so on. Because they have abandoned the two obscurations together with their habitual tendencies, they have no obstruction to all objects of knowledge, and because they exist as long as samsara exists, they are eternally present. Because they have attained the four correct analytical wisdoms, they answer all questions. As it is said in that very text: "The Buddhas' knowing from aspiration is spontaneously accomplished and free from attachment, without obstruction and eternally present, and they are considered to answer all questions." Third, the four individual correct knowledges are like the samadhi without afflictions, which belongs to the person who possesses the quality of immovability, and like the arising of the three continents, the four individual correct knowledges of Dharma, meaning, words, and eloquence are also the same. There are differences in their objects, grounds, and essences. Among them, the first three are the knowledge of names, meanings, and words in order, which cannot be reversed by others, so they are unobstructed. Among them, the individual correct knowledge of Dharma is not the Dharma of practice—the Eightfold Noble Path, nor the Dharma of result—nirvana, but the knowledge of the collection of names, words, and letters of non-wisdom Dharmas, because it is the expression of meanings, so it is the Dharma of teaching. The individual correct knowledge of meaning is the knowledge of the self-characteristics of Dharmas or nirvana, and the meaning to be expressed is meaning.
