Explaining these merits. Explaining these merits. Now, the third part is to show these merits. That is, previously it was said "knowing exhaustion and also with outflows," which refers to the common merits obtained in the moment of attaining the knowledge of exhaustion by Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Buddhas. Here, we will talk about the merits of the Buddha, which are divided into two types: uncommon and common. The first type is further divided into three. First, the brief explanation is as stated in the Explanation of Reasoning: "To awaken from the two sleeps of delusion, to increase wisdom, therefore it is called Buddha." Therefore, the Dharma of the merits obtained by the Buddha when awakening from the sleep of ignorance and increasing the light of wisdom, upon attaining the knowledge of exhaustion, is the ten powers that are uncommon to Hearers and others, and the four fearlessnesses, three mindfulnesses, and great compassion, which are included by the word "etc.," totaling eighteen. Other sutras say that the Thus-Gone One has eighteen qualities such as not being mistaken, as stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: "With conduct, realization, wisdom, and activities, to you, the teacher of all Hearers and Solitary Realizers, I pay homage." Summarizing them into four is the doctrine of the higher vehicle. The detailed explanation is divided into four parts. First, the explanation of the ten powers is that the possible and impossible are existence and non-existence (all conditioned and unconditioned dharmas). Among them, the possible is that from virtuous actions, higher realms arise, from non-virtuous actions, lower realms arise, and a man becomes a Solitary Realizer, etc. The impossible is that virtuous actions lead to lower realms, etc., which are the non-possibilities, referring to all causes and non-causes. The power of directly knowing all of these is the ten types of knowledge. Among them, the possible and impossible can be summarized into two: conditioned and unconditioned. (Knowing the possible prevents those who speak of causelessness, and knowing the impossible prevents those who speak of discordant things as causes.) The conditioned is divided into the three realms, and the uncontaminated is divided into two: associated and non-associated, thus dividing into eight by pairing them. The unconditioned is divided into two: virtuous and neutral, thus becoming ten. Among them, the object of conventional knowledge is all ten. The object of Dharma knowledge is the desire realm and the two pairs of uncontaminated conditioned dharmas, and the virtuous dharma among the unconditioned, totaling five. The object of subsequent knowledge is the two higher realms and the two pairs of uncontaminated conditioned dharmas.

I realize the seven unconditioned virtues, and knowing suffering and origin is six of the three realms. Knowing cessation is only unconditioned virtue. Knowing the path is the two conditioned and uncontaminated. With the wisdom of others' minds, I know the three corresponding to desire, form, and the conditioned and uncontaminated. Knowing exhaustion and non-arising is nine except for the unconditioned and non-specified. The power of knowing the various contaminated actions and (their) ripened fruits (which are the first two truths) is eight knowledges except for the knowledge of cessation and path. The knowledge of cessation and path only focuses on the uncontaminated, and the ripened fruit of the action is included in the first two contaminated truths. (The mind-wisdom knows the mind and mental factors, good and bad, of the lower two realms. The Dharma-wisdom with its divisions knows the desire realm, and the subsequent wisdom with its divisions knows the upper two realms.) Conventional wisdom focuses on the actions and results of the three realms. (The four meditations, and) the eight liberations included, the three samadhis such as emptiness, the two unconscious and cessation attainments, the nine gradual dwelling attainments, and the nature of the four formless attainments, and the power of unobstructed knowledge of the meanings of obtaining, benefiting, enjoying, etc., and the similar aspects of deterioration (of afflictions and purification) is nine knowledges, because they only focus on the conditioned, contaminated, and uncontaminated, and because they exclude the knowledge of cessation. Similarly, the powers of knowing the superior and non-superior faculties such as faith, the various aspirations for hearers and so on, and the various realms of hearers and so on, are nine each except for the knowledge of cessation. Among them, faculties and aspirations are mental factors, and realms are the intentions that are truly accomplished by the previous habits of teachers, good friends, and sentient beings, so they are also special minds and mental factors. (They are also the first two truths and the path.) They also only focus on the contaminated, uncontaminated, and conditioned. The power of knowing all the paths traveled from hell to cessation is ten knowledges,
