As previously stated, it should be known that this is only the fourth absorption. If asked, are supernormal powers only acquired through meditation and innate? It is not so. There are five types of supernormal powers: the first two, those born from secret mantras such as Gandhari, those born from medicines such as the mane of a tortoise and the feathers of a peacock, and those born like the king I, the slave, and the intermediate state being. It should be known. Are the so-called divine ear and eye the actual things of the gods? Or are they named that way because they are similar to the eyes of bodhisattvas, wheel-turning kings, and wealthy householders? These two are the actual eyes and ears of the gods. Because meditators weaken the path of meditation and focus their attention on sound and appearance, through the power of practice, in the openings of the eyes and ears, the four great elements of the meditative state are the cause, and colored objects are accomplished (unrelated to flesh, skin, bones, and blood; the divine eye can see the back, and some cannot see, which is the difference). Therefore, the root that can hear distant, obstructed, and subtle shapes and sounds is the cause of the meditative state. These two, the divine eye and ear, are also accomplished through experiencing form, so they are always accompanied by consciousness and have a basis. Unlike the completely non-existent blind, deaf, hunchbacked, and mute, they are complete. The objects of these two are distant and subtle sounds and forms, etc., which are covered by hidden places, so they are superior to the physical eye. Because the physical eye cannot see distant, obstructed, and subtle forms, it is said in the commentaries that the divine eye can see. So, how far can the divine eye see? The divine eye of the first dhyana can see the desire realm and the first dhyana, etc., which has been said before. The divine eyes of the three, Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Buddhas, without direct perception, can see one thousand, two thousand, and three thousand world systems in order. With the power of direct perception, they can see arhats in order.

The Hearers can see two thousand worlds, the Pratyekabuddhas can see three thousand worlds, and the Teacher Buddhas can see countless realms of the world as they wish. Is magical power the only innate ability? Or are there other innate abilities as well? The answer is that, apart from magical power, the four abilities of the divine eye, divine ear, recollection of past lives, and knowing the minds of others also have innate occurrences (this refers to all beings naturally acquiring them at the time of birth, rather than like some birds acquiring the ability to fly in the sky after birth. There are five types of magical power, which are not based on speculation. There are three types of extrasensory perception of the eye and ear, except for those arising from mantras and medicine. There are four types of knowing the minds of others, none arising from medicine. May this virtue cause all sentient beings to attain the cause of Buddhahood! These four are not innate. These four that are innate are possessed by the gods and nagas of the desire realm and the gods of the form realm.) However, those with innate abilities do not even obtain the name of a little extrasensory perception. The innate divine eye cannot see the intermediate state of existence, because it is only the realm of the divine eye of extrasensory perception that is free from eleven faults and is completely pure. Therefore, the innate divine eye exists in the nagas and the gods of the desire and form realms. In the formless realm, there are neither the five extrasensory perceptions nor innate abilities. As it says in the commentary: "In the formless realm, there are neither the five extrasensory perceptions nor all innate abilities, because there is no form body, and such a body cannot be perfectly formed." (Regarding the characteristics of innate dharmas.) The innate knowing of the minds of others can be of three types: virtuous, non-virtuous, or neutral. Any knowing of the minds of others that is based on the signs of speculators, and the knowing of the minds of others that is obtained through knowledge mantras, are also of three types: virtuous, non-virtuous, or neutral, while the knowing of the minds of others that is obtained through meditation is only virtuous. For hell beings, the innate knowing of the minds of others and recollection of past lives, at the time of their initial birth, as long as they are not afflicted by the feeling of suffering, they can know the minds of others and past events, but later, due to being afflicted by the feeling of suffering, their minds become weakened.

Because it has been done (I don't even remember), I don't know. Other beings, such as gods, animals, and hungry ghosts, always know because they are not threatened by the feeling of suffering due to their innate ability to know the minds of others and to remember past lives. Among them, regarding the gods, the sutra says: 'Relying on the assembly of sages, Where the Dharma King resides, Causing joy to arise in me, This is the victorious grove.' And like, 'From where did I die, where was I reborn, where was I born?' it is said to know the three places. Animals also know, like dragons and so on. Hungry ghosts also know, as it is said in the sutra: 'My favorable and unfavorable, With what is enjoyment new? Those are enjoyed by others, We only endure suffering.' For humans, miracles and so on, as mentioned before, arise from cultivation, and from reasoning, secret mantras, medicine, and karma, but these are not innate, because merely being born does not possess them. So, what is it like to naturally remember past lives? It arises from the difference of karma, as it is said in the Ratnavali: 'For the sake of Dharma and likewise, Remembering the essential meaning of the scriptures, And the stainless giving of Dharma, One will obtain the remembrance of past lives.' Therefore, it should be understood that clairvoyance has three types: arising from cultivation, innate, and arising from karma. The difference between patience and wisdom's observation, How many kinds of nature does wisdom possess, The two kinds of qualities contained in wisdom, Listen to this place if you want to know and obtain. In the commentary on the Abhidharma Kosha, the Ornament of Clear Realization, called the Teaching of Wisdom, which is the explanation of the seventh chapter. Explaining the merits of these.
