Some say that if rebirth is definite, then it contradicts the statement that "it is not a place, there is no opportunity, because this is not a place." The Vaibhashikas say that this is from the perspective that beings of different kinds will not be born together. If it is not like that, but examined according to the literal meaning, then the sutra says, "Revolving seven times among gods and humans, then they will end suffering," in this way, the intermediate state would also not exist. If that is the case, is it not that death is not allowed in all places? The sutra says that the seven existences are spoken of, which is from the perspective of the desire realm (because it is spoken with that in mind), so there is no fault. This is because it is thrown by the force of karma, and because the continuum matures at that time, so it will not exceed seven existences, and before that (in the meantime, through the higher path) they will not attain Arhatship (because there is karma that must be experienced. This contradicts "if it is established like that"). This is like being limited by the seven steps of emanation, and like a four-day fever. (The state of Stream-enterer is only seven existences, if reborn in a higher heaven, they will not be born in the human realm, because the fruit will decline, there will be faults such as death. If someone becomes a Stream-enterer in a human body, then in the end they will only come here and attain Nirvana, and those who attain the fruit of Stream-entry in the heavens will eventually attain Nirvana in the body of the heavens. The eighth existence will not occur, because the nature of that path is like that, because that existence determines the maturation of the continuum, just like being limited by the seven steps of emanation. That existence will accomplish birth, because there are still two lower fetters and five higher fetters, that is, seven fetters remaining. Some ordinary people's continuum maturation is also seven existences.) If the Buddha (the teachings of the Buddha and the Buddha) does not appear in the world, then the identity of the householder itself can obtain the Arhat fruit through the Dharma nature, so they are a Bhikshu. Some say that outsiders and so on attain Arhatship in the form of a Shramana. Anyone who is in the state of Stream-enterer, through defiled or undefiled meditation path, has eliminated the three or

Liberated from quiescence (i.e., this can be abandoned either before or after seeing the truth. A person) that (if four are abandoned) is born from one class to another in two lifetimes, or (if three are abandoned) in three lifetimes. Among these, there are two types: being born from one class of gods to another, and being born from one class of humans to another. Those who have abandoned one or two afflictions will be born from one class to another in six lifetimes or earlier, which should be understood implicitly even if not explicitly stated, as some former teachers explain. Some say that it is not explained separately because it is also born from one class to another two or three times. Why is it not said that abandoning the fifth also results in being born from one class to another? Because abandoning the fifth affliction of desire necessarily (in that same lifetime) abandons the sixth, it is not born from one class to another. Because the sixth alone cannot hinder the fruit of the once-returner. If that is the case, then the ninth aspect of a single obstruction also will not hinder the fruit of the non-returner. (Because it does not transcend the realm.) If you say that, it is not the same. Because a single obstruction must transcend the desire realm, it is difficult, so even a single aspect can hinder it. (The commentary says that having gone among the gods, one comes once to the human world, so it is a once-returner, because there will be no further births. According to this view, one goes to the heavens and then returns to the human world once. The sutra says that because attachment, hatred, and delusion have diminished, one returns once, which means that the three minor afflictions to be cultivated remain.) The once-returner does not need to transcend the realm, so the sixth aspect alone cannot hinder it. Secondly, the explanation of the once-returner is that one who abides in the fruit of stream-entry, having destroyed the afflictions to be abandoned through cultivation in the desire realm (from one to) up to five aspects (abiding on the path of non-obstruction to abandoning the sixth), not only abides in the first fruit but also enters the second fruit of the once-returner. One who merely abides in the fruit of the once-returner is one who, having seen the truth, has exhausted the sixth aspect of the afflictions to be abandoned through cultivation in the desire realm (abiding in liberation), is a once-returner. Because of the three subtle afflictions, once in the desire realm

Because there is no possibility of rebirth. (If we differentiate this, then for entering the stream, both faith and insight are divided into three by faculties, nine by support, and five by abandonment and path. Faith is divided into five by category, totaling six hundred and seventy-five. Insight has no distinction by category, so there are thirty-eight. The two abidings are the same as before, with three divisions each by abandonment and path. Faith has eighty-five, and insight has twenty-seven.) The state of the once-returner, having exhausted the seventh and eighth parts of the faults to be abandoned by cultivation in the desire realm, is called a "one-life" (for attaining Arhatship) and a "one-obstacle" (of afflictions for attaining non-return), which is a special state. The one-life obstructs the non-returner, as previously explained, this must transcend the desire realm, and transcending the realm is: forbearance and the non-returner Arhat, greatly obstruct the karma of going. Afflictions are also similar to karma, because they are difficult to abandon, so even one affliction can cause an obstacle. (Before attaining the path of seeing, abandoning the third and fourth, and abandoning the seventh and eighth, merely attaining the fruit is not a follower of faith or a one-obstacle, because they have not attained the uncontaminated faculty. If they directly realize those or the antidote above those, then it is.) The third is the explanation of the non-returner, the special state of the once-returner, which is also entering the fruit of the third fruit, the non-returner. The state of the once-returner, because the ninth part of the cultivation to be abandoned in the desire realm is exhausted, is the non-returner, because it is impossible to be reborn in the desire realm. Abiding in the state of the non-returner can be divided into three: approaching the form realm, approaching the formless realm, and passing into nirvana in this life. Among them, those who approach the form realm are of five types: passing into nirvana in the intermediate state, passing into nirvana after birth, passing into nirvana with effort, completely passing into nirvana without effort, and transferring upwards. The first of these is dying and transferring from here to the form (state
