If from that which has been fully accomplished, I say that it will not be completely lost by any other means. If it is said that even an Arhat who is irreversible will fall from the bliss of dwelling in the present Dharma, how can it be irreversible? It should be explained that complete loss should be understood in three ways. What are the three? Loss from the qualities that have been attained, loss from the qualities that have not been attained, and loss from the near practice of the qualities that have been attained. Among these, the first is loss from attainment, and the latter two are loss from possession, just as it is said that a person who is naturally foolish will lose wisdom. Among these three losses, the teacher Buddha only has the last loss, because in order to tame sentient beings, even if he has attained the qualities of dwelling in the bliss of the present Dharma, such as the samadhi of cessation, he will not manifest it. The Arhat who is irreversible has the middle and last two losses, because he has not attained the unshared Dharmas of the Buddha, etc., and the word "also" includes loss from near practice. The other five Arhats, the learners (those on the path of cultivation), and the dull-witted ordinary beings have all three losses. Therefore, saying that an Arhat who is irreversible falls from the bliss of dwelling in the present Dharma is loss from near practice, while the irreversible is loss from liberation. Other Arhats, the sutra says: With five conditions and five causes, an Arhat who is liberated in time will completely fall. What are the five? Entering the edge of activities, entering speech, entering disputes, having the behavior of walking long distances, and being afflicted by prolonged illness. Therefore, the Vaibhashikas say that this is loss from both dwelling in the bliss of the present Dharma and liberation. The Sutra masters and others say that the sutra says: Dwelling in the bliss of the present Dharma is the four that arise from higher mind, which are the four dhyanas themselves. I would not say that falling from any of these four is referring to the five cases of those who are prone to falling, etc. This alone is enough to show that the liberation of mind is irreversible.

Saying "I do not say that whatever has been manifestly done by the body will be completely lost in any way," this shows that all the liberation of the Arhat will not be lost. And the loss from what has not been obtained, and the loss from what has been closely used, are merely that what has not been obtained and what has not been used are given the name of loss, and the real loss is the loss from what has been obtained, so they think. However, the Sarvastivadins think that the Arhat will also lose from liberation, so will the Arhat die and be reborn in samsara because of the loss? No. No one who has completely lost the fruit will die and be reborn in the state of loss, because they can quickly recover with mindfulness and awareness. The Sutra says, "O monks, for the noble disciple who has heard the Dharma, there may be a slight loss of memory, but it will immediately disappear, be completely exhausted, and completely end." If this is not the case, the Brahmacharya will not be reliable. If it is said that there is an action contrary to abiding in the fruit, so there may also be a complete loss that cannot be recovered, then the one who abides in the fruit will not do those illegal actions, such as killing, etc., because when the unpolluted path manifests, mindfulness and awareness will arise quickly, just as the great wrestler will not easily attack. Again, if the transformation of the senses will be transferred to the uninterrupted path and the path of liberation, then the one who has the ability to realize will transfer without changing, and will transfer through the nine paths of liberation and the nine uninterrupted paths, a total of eighteen ways. The non-learner, if he belongs to the dull roots, is difficult to abandon because he is very familiar with and accustomed to both the learning path and the non-learning path. For the same reason, it is also clear that there are nine paths of liberation and nine uninterrupted paths for the transfer of the one who is subject to decline to the thought of death, etc. The one who follows faith (with a degree) obtains enlightenment through seeing, and only one uninterrupted path and one path of liberation will arise, because it is easy to abandon because of less habituation.
