The ground not only does not degenerate from the first fruit, but also does not degenerate from the Arhat. Because he has obtained the antidote to eradicate the seeds of affliction from the root, so he will never be born again. If not, it would become not exhausted leakage. If all the afflictions disappear temporarily, it is considered an Arhat, then all mindless states will become like that. The Blessed One also said, "Monks, whatever is abandoned by noble wisdom is abandoned." And said, "For those who are learning, diligence should be done." But did not say to Arhats. The Dharma Abhidhamma also says: "With three causes, the subtle increase of desire and greed arises: the subtle increase of desire and greed has not been abandoned and has not been completely known; the dharmas entangled by the subtle increase of desire and greed appear; and the countermeasure is not to make rational attention to them." Because Arhats do not have these, they will not degenerate. Also, the sutra says: "Ananda, for Arhats, gain and respect are also obstacles." This refers to hindering entering the fundamental samadhi and dwelling happily in the present Dharma. The Ten Matters Sutra says: "There is only one Dharma to be cultivated, that is, the liberation of the mind, which is ripe and agreeable." This is from the perspective of the learner. The six kinds of Arhats mentioned refer to degeneration from the merits of gradual abiding samadhi, etc., and are those who have the Dharma of degeneration, etc. Other sutras say: "The venerable Black Crowd, with the liberation of the mind that is ripe and agreeable, has physically realized it, and has repeatedly completely degenerated six times, and because of fatigue, he does not care about his life, so he commits suicide with weapons, and only at the time of death did he obtain the fruit of Arhat and enter Nirvana." This is also because it is only when one is learning that one will degenerate. As the Charcoal Pile Sutra says: "The noble Shravaka has hearing, thus practices, thus abides, sometimes the king

Some say that the statement in the sutra, "From the loss of mindfulness, sinful and unwholesome thoughts will arise," is also spoken from the perspective of a learner. Those who follow the higher vehicle say that on the ground of the supramundane path, those who have abandoned the seeds of afflictions and conceptual thoughts do not degenerate even for the noble learners, because there is no cause. Any degeneration spoken of from this and that refers to those who have not abandoned the seeds to be abandoned by meditation. For all learners and non-learners, time and conjunction and non-conjunction, degeneration and non-degeneration, etc., are spoken in terms of the application of dull and sharp faculties, retention, samadhi, and liberation, etc. They think so, just as those who know reason say, "Because the seed of the view of self has been abandoned, there is no turning back." Do only Arhats have six lineages? Or do others also have six lineages? Just as Arhats have six lineages, so too do the noble learners and non-noble ordinary beings have six lineages, such as the nature of complete degeneration. Those lineages of Arhats also precede them directly and indirectly, and because the result is not confused with the cause. Seventh, if the faculties change from dull to sharp, then at what stage does the change occur? There is no change of faculties on the path of seeing, because it is the only continuous samadhi (there is nothing else that can be done other than that action), and because there is no combination. (Faith transforms only from the uncontaminated, and it is not contradictory for ordinary people to rely on the aspect of calm and intensity, because in any case, one must make one's faculties sharp. After thinking in this way, through the combination of the uninterrupted path and the path of liberation, the faculties gradually transform.) Therefore, ordinary people and learners have faith, and non-learners have a change of faculties at the stage of time and combination. The sutra says, "For those who have attained the four dhyanas arising from the excellent mind, abiding happily in the present dharma, I say that they will completely degenerate from any one of them. Only this person realizes the liberation of mind with the body, until it is unshakable."
