It is because of observing the common path. Thus, those included by the six dhyana grounds are three hundred and twelve, plus seventy-two for the first three formless realms, totaling three hundred and eighty-four. If these are multiplied by six lineages and three faculties, they become six thousand nine hundred and twelve. Some Dharmalakṣaṇavādins believe that the truth of the path, like the truth of cessation, is observed on each ground. According to this view, since the four subsequent cognitions that observe the common path of the upper realms do not arise, the four dharma-knowledges and thirty-two subsequent cognitions that observe the path truth of the nine grounds, that is, each of the six dhyana grounds has eighty each. There are a total of four hundred and eighty. The first three formless realms, plus twelve, eight, and four that observe the path truth of their own and upper grounds, are forty, thirty-two, and twenty-four in order of the grounds, so they become ninety-six. Adding everything together, it becomes five hundred and seventy-six. If, as before, they are multiplied by six and three according to the differences in lineage and faculty, then the vajra-like samadhi will become one million three hundred thousand and sixty-eight, it should be understood that way. The object of the vajra-like samadhi, suffering and origin, is only for those at the peak of existence, while cessation and path, because of what is to be abandoned, belong to all nine grounds. The above is from the perspective of tenets, because the scriptures say that for the path of cultivation, whether it is cessation or path, whatever is dharma-knowledge is the antidote to the three realms. Second, the nine aspects of abandonment by cultivation at the peak of existence, (with the vajra-like samadhi) the attainment of exhaustion and the path of liberation that knows the exhaustion arise simultaneously (this is the final liberation. The knowledge of exhaustion has arisen). At that time, the noble one is also called a non-learner. It is also called abiding in the fruit of an arhat, because in order to attain the fruit, there is no need to learn the three trainings, after one's own benefit is perfected, one does the benefit of others, and is worthy of being offered to by all ordinary beings and learners, and has defeated all the afflictions of the three realms. (If arhats are distinguished, time-liberated ones are fivefold by lineage and threefold by faculty.)

There are twenty-nine kinds of reliance, making a total of four hundred and thirty-seven. Those not combined with time have no distinction in kind. By transforming through the senses and reliance, there are eighty-seven. Through wisdom, liberation also has three senses, six kinds, and twenty-nine reliances. Combined, there are five hundred and twenty-two. Liberation from both aspects is also the same.) The seven noble ones mentioned earlier are learners, because in order to exhaust defilements, they always learn the three trainings. Ordinary individuals are not learners, because they do not know the true reality as it is (lacking the training of wisdom), and they abandon (the other two) trainings. Therefore, in the Sutra Questioned by the Wanderer Shijie, it is said: Gautama is called a learner, why is he called a learner, a learner? Shijie, because he learns in training, and learns in training, therefore he is called a learner. This was repeated twice. (Although noble ones slightly abandon learning, it is impossible to completely abandon it, because even if noble ones are not in meditative equipoise, they do not abandon the thought of learning, like a guest on the road, and also because they possess the attainment of the three learnings. The dharma of learning is the path of seeing and the path of cultivation. The dharma of non-learning is the path of non-learning.) Nirvana is neither a learner nor a non-learner, because it is individually analyzed cessation, so ordinary individuals and learners, non-learners all possess it accordingly. Thus, the individuals of the Hearer noble ones (gradually) are only the four pairs and eight types, and those are only eight in name, but in reality, they are the first who have entered the gradual path and the four and five who abide in the fruit, because the latter three abiders are designated on the three pure fruit positions. Those who precede detachment, the particularly superior non-returners, also abide in the Arhat position, plus the previous three who have entered the stream and the four fruit positions, making seven in total. The designation as eight in name is also in terms of attaining the gradual path, but not in terms of preceding detachment, because in most cases, detachment from desire, in the fifteen and ten moments of realizing the truth
