It is to prevent the loss of the fruit by prolonging the meditation time. The sharp-witted Arhat (because there are no other two cases) is to abide in bliss in the present Dharma (only for this purpose); the dull-witted one (to cultivate for the sake of abiding in bliss in the present Dharma and not losing the fruit) is because he fears the cause of losing the fruit—afflictions. The Stream-enterer and Once-returner cannot cultivate, because they have not obtained the actual practice of meditation. Furthermore, why are the five Pure Abodes fixed? Because the cultivation of alternating causes, that is, alternating one contaminated between two uncontaminated ones, the small alternation is three alternations, the medium is six, the large is nine, the very large is twelve, and the extremely large is fifteen. Because there are these five ways of cultivation, the birth of the Pure Abodes of the fruit in order is only five, such as not being large. Birth in these places is due to the power of the contaminated (completion) (not projection). The uncontaminated is the antidote to existence, so it is not projection. (The uncontaminated below six alternations is repeatedly cultivated. Whoever alternates believes that they are born in these places with the five kinds of faith, etc., large and small.) Bhikkhu Palena said: The five Pure Abodes are determined to be five because they range from the first, which is the increase of the power of faith, to the fifth, which is the increase of wisdom. The teacher Whoever alternates says: That is unreasonable. All five, such as faith, are observed in the manner of root swelling, and are divided into five types, such as small ones, so it is certain that they are the five Pure Abodes, not the increase of each one. In order to attain cessation, the Non-returner is considered to be a physical realization because he is able to manifest the mind of peace that is like Nirvana. Because there is no mind when entering cessation, it arises relying on the body, so it is physical realization. The teacher believes that at the time of entering cessation, the attainment of cessation is physically realized with the corresponding body, and when rising from cessation, the body with consciousness obtains peace, and the mind thinks: Alas, cessation is as peaceful as Nirvana.
