Therefore, it is considered "manifestation by body" because it is manifested by the wisdom of experiencing each one correctly. So, why is it that when the sutra says "eighteen learners," it does not say manifestation by body? Because the cause for establishing as a learner is the three uncontaminated trainings and their result, the nature of separation, while the absorption of cessation is not the nature of the path of abandonment, so it is not a learner. Moreover, since the nature of separation is not an individual selective cessation, it is not the fruit of a learner. Regarding the eighteen learners, the sutra says: "Venerable One, the householder Anathapindika asked the Blessed One: 'Venerable, how many objects of offering are there in the world?' The Buddha said: 'Householder, there are two objects of offering: learners and non-learners.' Householder, among them, there are eighteen learners and nine non-learners. What are the eighteen learners?' (Entering the stream, twice three coming once, sharp dull twice two born into a family, one life never returning five, the object of offering, the eighteen learners, this is the summary made by the abbot) There are seven between entering the stream to manifest the fruit of entering the stream, up to entering the stream to manifest the fruit of an arhat; and five from faith-follower, dharma-follower, faith-liberated, vision-attained, family to family, one interval, intermediate nirvana, up to the upper stream, these are the eighteen learners. What are the nine non-learners? Declining dharma, thinking dharma, protecting dharma, abiding without decline, capable of attainment, immovable dharma, non-declining dharma, wisdom liberation, both part liberation, these are the nine non-learners. Fourth, explaining the Arhat, divided into entering and abiding, the first is that the non-returner begins with the first dhyana, one level of detachment from desire, until the eight parts of the peak of existence are exhausted, which is entering the Arhat fruit itself. Not only that

Being in the uninterrupted path of abandoning the ninth affliction of the peak of existence also counts as entering the state of an Arhat. The ninth uninterrupted path is the Vajra-like Samadhi. (Because the common causes of all previous paths have increased, it is an uninterrupted path that is more powerful than all uninterrupted paths.) Because it is able to destroy the subtle increases of the three realms, and it cannot be destroyed by opposing factors. If the Vajra-like Samadhi is divided from the perspective of the ground, there are nine types, because it relies on the six meditation grounds and the first three formless realms. If divided from the perspective of the object, there are four types, because it focuses on the Four Noble Truths. If divided from the perspective of aspects, there are sixteen types, because it distinguishes the impermanence and so on of the Four Noble Truths. If divided by all three aspects of ground, object, and aspect, then the aspects are extremely numerous. Relying on the incomparable Vajra-like Samadhi, it does not focus on the contaminated dharmas of the lower grounds, but only on the suffering and origin of the peak of existence, there are eight aspects of subsequent knowledge, namely, the four aspects of subsequently knowing the suffering of the peak of existence as impermanent and so on, and the four aspects of subsequently knowing the origin as cause and so on. Focusing on the truth of cessation, there are thirty-six types, because focusing on the cessation of all grounds, there are four types of Dharma-knowledge focusing on the cessation of the desire realm, and four sets of subsequent knowledge focusing on the cessation of the eight higher grounds. Focusing on the path, there are eight aspects, because there are four dharmas focusing on the path of the desire realm, and four subsequent knowledges focusing on the general path of the upper realms. Thus, the Vajra-like Samadhi included in the preliminary concentration of the first dhyana is fifty-two types. Similarly, the remaining five times should also be known. The ones included in the first three formless realms are, in order, twenty-eight, twenty-four, and twenty, because they do not focus on the path of the desire realm and the cessation of the lower grounds, and the path is the cause of each other. Therefore, it is said in the scriptures that the paths of the six and nine grounds are the objects of its sphere of activity, so the lower one is the form realm.
