So, in this way, the subtle afflictions in the desire realm are thirty-six. Those afflictions that are spoken of in the desire realm, except for anger, are also present in the form realm, but there is no anger (because there is no basis for increase since it relies on and is based on painful feelings), and because the continuum is moistened by tranquility, there are no nine objects of pervasive torment. The nine objects of pervasive torment are: having harmed oneself, harming oneself, and will harm oneself, these three; having harmed one's friend, harming one's friend, and will harm one's friend, these three; having benefited one's enemy, benefiting one's enemy, and will benefit one's enemy, these three, totaling nine. Therefore, in the form realm, there are thirty-one subtle afflictions of what is abandoned by seeing and what is abandoned by meditation, because there are no five types of anger. In the formless realm, there are also thirty-one, similar to the form realm, so those nine, six, six, seven, anger, views, three, two, nine, except for these, in the form realm, suffering, etc., are abandoned sequentially by seeing, and three are abandoned by meditation. Thus, understand by relating it to the formless realm as well. Thus, according to the Vaibhashikas, there are eighty-eight that are abandoned by seeing and ten that are abandoned by meditation, totaling ninety-eight, in the three realms. If these are divided according to realm, ground, and aspect, they become two hundred and fifty-two. Other Abhidharma masters say from the five aggregates that among the afflictions, desire, pride, and ignorance are fifteen each. Anger is five. Doubt is twelve. Views are thirty-six. Among these, the lower three views and doubt are conceptually imputed. The remainder are both innate and conceptually imputed. Thus, the four, such as desire, and the first two views, totaling six, are both innate to be abandoned by meditation and conceptually imputed to be abandoned by seeing. The latter three views and doubt are only conceptually imputed, therefore they are definitely to be abandoned by seeing. These ten afflictions also, because they wrongly engage without distinction in the four truths, such as suffering, there are forty to be abandoned by seeing in the desire realm, and no anger in the two upper realms.

Therefore, there are thirty-six types of what is abandoned by the path of seeing, totaling one hundred and twelve. What is abandoned by the path of meditation is six in the desire realm, and five each in the upper two realms, totaling sixteen. If these are divided according to (types) and realms and grounds, they will become four hundred and fourteen. So it is said. The *Distinguishing Collection* says that for the truth of suffering in the desire realm, all ten afflictions arise. For the latter three truths, except for the view of the aggregates and the view of holding to extremes, the remaining eight afflictions arise. For the truths of the upper two realms, except for anger, the afflictions are the same as before, with nine and seven arising respectively. Therefore, what is abandoned by the path of seeing is thirty-four in the desire realm, and thirty each in the upper two realms, totaling ninety-four. What is abandoned by the path of meditation is anger in the desire realm, and desire, pride, and ignorance in the three realms. These afflictions are abandoned by becoming accustomed to the supreme path, hence they are called what is abandoned by the path of meditation. This is explained in accordance with this. Pandita says that what is explained here is the view of the Vaibhashikas, what is explained in the *Distinguishing Collection* is the view of the Sautrantikas, and what is explained in the *Compendium of Topics* is the view of the Cittamatrins. (It is also seen in the commentary of Zla-cog that, from the subtle differences of what is to be abandoned by seeing, the teachers of the three schools think that there are 118, 94, 112, and 90.) However, the latter two views are explained based on the power of formal differences and actual differences, Chim said. If it is asked whether these afflictions that are abandoned by the path of seeing are only to be abandoned by the path of seeing, there is a distinction, namely, those subtle differences such as what is abandoned by the path of seeing, which arise from the peak of existence, and which are to be destroyed by the four acceptances that know suffering, are indeed to be abandoned by seeing the truth. (Because those afflictions are definitely only to be abandoned by the path of seeing.) The word "ཉིད་(藏文)" means (of "ཁོ་ནའི་(藏文)") determination. In this way, it is impossible to abandon what is abandoned by the path of seeing by the supramundane path of meditation, and there is also no mundane path to abandon what is abandoned by the path of seeing at the peak of existence. Other than the peak of existence, what is abandoned by the path of seeing, arising from all the birth places below the sphere of nothing whatsoever,
